Meet Daniel Martinez of Notforsale in West LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Martinez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I was seven, I got an art scholarship to take classes at the local museum in Downtown Riverside, so I started pretty early and I think I always had it in the back of my mind that long term I wanted to pursue something creative. I found design out of necessity at first, when I was 14, I started a clothing brand with some friends and I took on the task of being the main designer and operations guy so that’s the beginning of my world being a place where business and design intersect. In pursuing the clothing brand, I realized that it wasn’t my main goal but I liked to build worlds and figure out how things worked and how we can make them better. I eventually started a small merch company helping businesses produce promotional products and then took what I learned from that and joined another local promotional products company. I handled tons of creative tasks as their lead designer during a big growth period, after three years there, I joined a startup in Santa Monica and moved to West LA. Today I’m currently at MediaMonks as a production designer, where I have the opportunity to work with an awesome team of other creatives and leaders in our field.

Has it been a smooth road?
I learned that you need to control your narrative and how you’re labeled or people will do it for you and you’ll only see opportunities that are predetermined for you. So at one point, I was only really seen as a merch and print designer, knowing what I was capable of. I had to change that narrative by turning away that kind of work and only seeking out advertising and consulting work. As time went on, those opportunities started to just come to me organically.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Notforsale – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Along with my professional portfolio, I run NOTFORSALE a creative and consulting company that also acts as an incubator for new ideas and creatives, our slogan is “We lead with good design and bend the world around us” a lot of what we do is infrastructure building, right now we have Adrian Gamboa as our main project along with a few other select clients where we’re handling everything from strategy to creative execution. We’re very adaptable to clients’ needs, as an innovative content creator, we love trying out new concepts.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Likes: I love LA, the weather, the Lakers, mix of cultures, food, and especially the live shows.

Dislikes: Traffic and parking, they make it so difficult to enjoy other neighborhoods on weekdays.
