Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Owen.
Danielle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Well, I am from Cleveland, OH. Born in Toledo and raised in Cleveland. Lived on the west side of Cleveland for the most part. I went to church where I also participated in the choir and in my youth group. I have five sisters and two brothers. I’ve been singing since a really young age, maybe three or four years old. My great-grandma would tell me stories of how I used to call for everyone’s attention in the family whenever I wanted to sing and perform for them and they would all stop what they were doing to watch haha. My first solo performance was in a talent show at my elementary school singing “Angel” by Amanda Perez.
I also went to an arts high school where I majored in Vocal & studied classical and jazz music. I became a part of an after school program called All-City Arts where I participated in their choir as well. After high school, I went on to Cleveland State University where I studied some music. An unfortunate event struck; my grandma’s passing and then a year later I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. I didn’t know what to expect from the chemo and the overall journey of it. During the treatments, the effects of it were probably one of the hardest things I had endured at that time.
I am now cancer-free going on a little over four years. I went back to school at the University of Akron. For a few years, I had been saying I wanted to move to LA but never made the move. So not long after school, I flew out to LA to visit friends and to really consider moving to Los Angeles. I enjoyed my visit so much that I finally made the decision to just do it and so I did! I have now been living in LA for two years and love it. I have released two songs: “Please Don’t Go” & “Tonight” (both songs are available on all social media platforms), a music video and a performance video with Clevór Sessions. I’m currently working on more music and getting ready to release many more songs and videos very soon!
I actually just had another tragedy which I flew home for, my dad’s passing. I love and miss him a lot. But I am going to make him proud and happy by continuing on making music and following my dreams.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all. Honestly, I probably wouldn’t have learned some of the life lessons I did if it had been smooth. From an error in my transfer from my job at the time causing me to have to search for a new one, working side jobs and continuously looking for ways to keep up with my bills. But with the help of my friends and parents, God, my hustle and my willingness to not give up have definitely made it an easier one. To all who have been there and are still here, I love you all and appreciate everything you are and what you’ve done.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am an artist with Predominant Records that are owned by two very close friends (more like family) Kendrick King and Kendale King. I am a songwriter, entertainer, sing & dance, and model. I have a love for all kinds of music but I’m mostly known for R&B. My dream is to make music that relates, entertains, and inspires not only those around me but for anyone around the world that my music will touch.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Definitely God, my parents, Norreen and Zeb Thomas, my little brother Josh. They have helped and supported me in every obstacle from the start of this journey. Also, my best friend Kendrick whom I can’t thank enough. Also, Kendale who has been a big help in many ways. I appreciate both of them more than they know. They have kept me going even at times when I wanted to let go. I also want to shoutout Khalil “Ill Lil” for mentioning me to you guys and receiving this wonderful opportunity to introduce myself and my life into this industry. There are so many others but just to name a few there’s Danah Austin, Jaierra Gibson, Shawna Pops, Lauren Campbell, Packrat, and countless other friends and family. I love you all and appreciate the love and support you give.
