Meet Herchell Carrasco of Pachuco Tattoo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Herchell Carrasco.

Herchell, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been an Artist and creative as long as I can remember. Tattooing came to me at a time of struggle, I became independent and moved out of my mother’s house at around age 17. I was renting an apartment, working full time, going to school & struggling financially. Tattooing started as a side hustle, I tattooed out of my kitchen working on all of my close friends and family. I was obsessed with tattooing and I would work full time & tattoo nights and weekends. I began to promote my work on social media & YouTube. A new local shop found my videos on YouTube & offered me a shop position.

I tattooed at West Coast Ink for 2 years and I left to pursue my own business. Pachuco Tattoo opened in 2011 & I became the youngest tattoo shop owner in California at age 23.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely not been smooth. The first few years in business we were not making a profit, we continued to push forward & just put the hours in to build a clientele base and brand. Maintaining a solid team has always been difficult, we originally started as a 10-11 artist crew now has downsized to 4-5 Artists. Quality over quantity, we currently house Danny Lazaro, Eli Tattooing, George the Artist, Apprentices Clyde & Steven, my management Ashton King & my self RockRollG. Being an Entrepreneur people think you’re just the person sitting back collecting all of the money but the truth is you never stop working.

The owner carries all of the stress, all of the overhead & takes the loss on an unsuccessful risk. I’ve learned to expect the unexpected & just push forward.

Pachuco Tattoo – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Pachuco Tattoo is recognized as a Chicano Black & Grey Tattoo Shop.

We can take on any style & are always open for Walk-Ins.

My company has been awarded “Best place to get tattooed” in Orange County six years in a row -MyFoxLA & “Best Tattoo Parlor” -OCWeekly. Eight years in business & we have become a go-to spot for celebrity clientele in Southern California.

My shop makes you feel welcome, long sessions turn clients into friends & friends become family…

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’m proud to just simply be in business for over eight years. I’m proud I get to represent my Mexican roots & to own a small business in California. Tattooing has given me opportunities to be on TV, on the radio, in music videos & I get to collaborate with some of my favorite Music Artists & Athletes.
