Meet Andy Vimar of The Real Stills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Vimar.

Andy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The Real Stills is a fresh take on the classic singer-lead guitar duo. The group is fronted by Detroit vocalist Mike Moody as well as myself on guitar. Through unlikely circumstances we met in the LA music circle and had a relatable appreciation for The Beatles and The Blues. It all felt pretty natural from the jump; we were writing often and gigging regularly as a Duo at every venue we could. The addition of bass player Jacob Arguetta and drummer Julian Ho was really when the project started to take shape. We started gigging often and hard. Collectively, we have a wide range of musical tastes, but all seems to consolidate into a great sound. We draw well at gigs and have had good luck in competitions. Most recently, we are working with producer Eric Corne on our upcoming record. We released our single “Different Together” a while back, you can check it out on most major streaming services.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s no secret that this industry is riddled with challenges, even just living in Los Angeles presents its set of obstacles. Having episodes of creative or financial insecurities is an age old story for anyone in this line of work. But thankfully, the scene in LA is so rich and populated that once you are able to surround yourself with the right people, you have nowhere to go but up. So many people are doing great things, and inspiration is always around the corner.

What else should we know about The Real Stills?
At the end of the day, we love being a live band. Nothing beats the energy of making music in the ‘now’. We get a real kick out how a song can just spontaneously unfold on the bandstand, it’s a feeling that we’re constantly chasing after. It’s been different and exciting every night, and the crowds always seem to be very receptive of that.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
It’s all about luck, but it seems it’s even more about creating your own luck.
