Meet Andy Saedan of Spinfish Poké House

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Saedan.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Andy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Spinfish began as a dream of two friends who were inspired by Hawaii. We wanted to capture the aloha spirit and embody it in an eatery where people would feel warm, welcome, while enjoying great food. Poké was a natural choice for us as it was one of our favorite comfort foods – fresh, delectable cubes of raw fish marinated in sauce and a variety of toppings.

We decided to pay homage to how poké is served in Hawaii, but also put our own spin on it. We created sauces that were influenced by the flavors we grew up with, and came up with a menu featuring unique blends of sweet, spicy and savory for all taste buds.

We were lucky enough to find a little spot tucked away in an alley in Old Town Pasadena. We convinced the landlords to take a chance on us and that’s how it all started.

Has it been a smooth road?
Poké started becoming one of the hottest, trendiest foods in Los Angeles, and naturally, numerous competitors popped up all around town. Within a month of opening our first Spinfish in Pasadena, a restaurant 100 feet away decided to flip their concept and serve poké as well. They had a larger space, better visibility as they were located along the historic Colorado Blvd, and were also previous restaurant owners and had way more experience. It has been challenging, but we simply kept our heads down and kept focusing on improving ourselves and our operation.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Spinfish Poké House – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a restaurant that specializes in serving fresh, handcrafted poké that is fully customizable. Our signature bowls, the Aloha 808 and the Shaka, are some of our customer favorites. We also pride ourselves on providing outstanding customer service, and we like to use the term ‘fast formal’ to describe the type of restaurant we are, as we go above and beyond to make sure every customer is taken care of. We hold ourselves to a very high standard, and we are extremely proud of the people we work with. Each member of our team has shown incredible growth from the beginning, and we love being a part of the community in each city we’re in.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love the energy and diversity of Los Angeles – one can immerse themselves in a melting pot of different cultures. What we like least about Los Angeles is probably in line with what most people who live here would agree with – traffic.
