Meet Madison Molique and Katelynn Loflin of Sugar Braids

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Molique and Katelynn Loflin.

Madison and Katelynn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We have been working as hairstylist at Madison Avenue Salon, braiding hair for several years. We do a lot of braids for people going to music festivals and special events. This past June, we were asked to braid a Coachella themed birthday party, which was so much FUN. So much fun that we decided that we wanted to start our own business. That night we went to our mentor and talked about how exciting it was and how much joy it brought to these young girls. In that moment we knew this was something SPECIAL and we wanted to continue with it. We started making a color pallet, worked on our logo and then started our brand. Since then we’ve done serval birthday parties, a music festival called “reggae on the mountain” and the “Malibu chili cook off”.

Has it been a smooth road?
Luckily, through a great support system, our journey has been pretty smooth. However starting a business always has its challenges, for example, at the first big music festival we braided at, the wind really picked up, making it very hard to braid in the extensions. Thankfully we were able to improvise and cover up our booth to block it out. Since there isn’t a business quite like ours, we have to figure out what works and what doesn’t.. luckily We have a lot of people who love and support our business and great mentors to ask for advice.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sugar Braids story. Tell us more about the business.
Sugar braids is LAs first mobile Braiding business. We bring the braids to YOU! We specialize in braiding with colorful extensions, To sweeten up your look we add glitter and accessories.

We are known for our precise braiding and our uplifting attitudes. We are proud to be a female-owned business at such a young age. Besides our braiding. What makes us different from others is the way we interact with our clients. Not only do we love braiding hair but we love empowering other people. It’s our goal to make each and every person we Braid feel beautiful inside and out.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Our plans for the future is to braid at major music festivals and travel the world. Eventually, we would love to grow our small team into a Sugar Braid Family. We’d also love to start teaching classes to everyone on how to braid. Our biggest goal is to braid at Coachella or burning man! We would like to buy a Volkswagen camper to use as our booth at festivals and make it all sugar braids themed.
