Conversations with the Inspiring Lorna Shirley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorna Shirley.

Lorna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m an LA local. Larchmont, Los Feliz, and Hollywood are my stomping grounds. I attended Immaculate Heart High School in Los Feliz so you could say my roots run pretty deep in this city.

I think anyone who grows up in this city ‘gets it’ when it comes to cutting edge content. Isn’t this where all the trends are set and all the buzz is brewed?!

I was always a super independent kid. This trait has never gone away and you could say that’s why I felt compelled to run my own business. In a city of go-getters and trendsetters, you really have to wholeheartedly believe in yourself and your abilities.

Pistol Social is a full-service creative social media agency. The name comes from my love for the desert, westerns, horseback riding, and the general badassery of cowboys. Social media marketing is the wild west of marketing, so what better name to describe everything me and my team do for our clients. We’re not afraid to wrangle up something new. (See what I did there.)

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I want to speak directly to the young women reading this: never let anyone tell you what you can and can not achieve.

I think many of us think that the path to success is like a ladder. When you’re young, you start at the bottom and you work your way up by virtue of other people opening doors. Don’t wait or rely on other people to open doors for you. Open them yourself.

What should we know about Pistol Social? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am the founder of LA-based social media agency, Pistol Social. We are a full-service creative agency that provides social media strategy, content creation, community management, influencer relations, and ad management.

Whether you’re looking to launch a beauty brand or need influencers to attend your organization’s upcoming event, we got you covered.

We’re known for our 1 on 1 approach with our clients. Bigger isn’t always better when it comes to working with social media agencies. We’re able to offer our clients budget-friendly rates, speedy service, and a level of personalization that feels like we’re a part of your team.

I’m most proud of the content we create. We work with three INCREDIBLE photographers who help bring our ideas to life. We curate culturally relevant, on-brand, and high-quality content.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
Many women have inspired me and continue to inspire me on the daily.

I am lucky to be surrounded by ambitious women like my dear friend and work wife, Kaeleigh Morrison who championed my jump into entrepreneurship.

My first client, Areva Martin, is a HUGE inspiration to me. She’s a Harvard Law graduate and media maven who reminds young women it’s less about fitting into glass slippers and more about breaking glass ceilings.

Finally, my mom Laura Shirley. She taught me to be fiercely independent. None of this would have been possible without her support.
