Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Roth.
Justin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started working in fitness when I was 16, training elderly clients at a local YMCA. By 18 I was assistant manager and created several fitness programs for people with physical and developmental disabilities. After college, I worked in entertainment and publications, but soon found my way back into fitness and started teaching classes, and ultimately managing. Early into my management years I met my current partner Rashad Peters. After some years and brainstorming, we started Poise Fitness with the intention of creating a progressive environment for everyone, no matter their fitness background.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The ride is never smooth, but if you use every obstacle and challenge as a learning experience then they’re just “love taps.”
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Poise Fitness story. Tell us more about the business.
Poise is an Integrated Interval Training studio. We integrate ALL forms of exercise into quick intervals. The exercises are strategically order so there is synchronicity from start to finish. These exercises are not just mapped out weekly, but yearly; allowing us to address the body as a whole, yielding balanced results and improving the overall structural strength of the body.
We are not HIIT, because we are not always high intensity.
We are not a bootcamp because you can always go at your own pace.
Simply put: we don’t limit our training to just one method. We borrow the best parts of all types of training to deliver the most comprehensive results. This includes doing corrective exercises to address the imbalances that ultimately cause injuries. We take a proactive approach so that progression is always made.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I think awareness is more important than luck, but you need a little of both to find good staff.
Once you find good staff, you don’t need luck anymore.
