Today we’d like to introduce you to Anar Bhansali.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My family has been in the diamond industry for generations. My father, Samir Bhansali, started his own jewelry line called La Reina. He became quite famous for his Couture Collections which featured many unique and cutting-edge materials and techniques. I grew up helping him with his business and decided to form my own jewelry company with my brother after graduating from USC. Our company would focus on empowering women through the beauty of fine jewelry.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t know if any entrepreneurial journey is smooth – but it has definitely been a fun adventure! There is so much learning that happens when running a small business. I had to manage not only the creative side of the business (my passion), but also the marketing, sourcing, production, and financial sides of the business.
Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about you and your career so far?
Bhansali is a fine jewelry company built upon two generations of expertise in diamonds and design. We create new classics for the modern woman. Our pieces are bold, alive, and beautiful just like the women we celebrate. Not only do we bring forth the light in these women, but we also shine light on them as well. Bhansali is building a powerful community around recognizing women and their contributions to our world. Finally, at the heart of our company is our passion to uplift others. Our nonprofit, START by Bhansali, empowers inner city youth to start their own businesses through creative education. Because at Bhansali, true luxury is the luxury to give back.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
While profit is an indication of success for others, I find success is in leaving a positive mark on this world. I feel that beautiful creations awaken us to new ways of being in the world. It is in the presence of beauty where we feel most alive and the needs of our soul are satisfied. Design can uplift our world and success for me is marked by how my clients feel when they encounter a Bhansali piece.
