Meet Evey Solorio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evey Solorio.

Evey, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Let’s rewind 9 years ago when I was a makeup artist at a photography studio at the age of 18. I had a passion for photography and makeup so what better way to combine the two by doing what I loved while being mentored on how to take amazing photos! The gig was great but i unfortunately had to leave since the photographer I worked with was moving away and had to close down his studio 🙁 from there I took on little part time jobs here and there while still trying to pursue a career in makeup. At the age of 21 I was hired as a freelance makeup artist for mac cosmetics where I worked with some of the best artist and gained so much product knowledge and how to provide the ultimate experience While doing makeup on clients, my journey with mac cosmetics was unforgettable but I knew the universe had more in store for me. At age 23 I joined the team at Morphe, that’s when things really started to take off for me. I went from being a beauty artist at their retail store in Burbank to filming with networks like lifetime tv to traveling out of the country to work makeup conventions and even training new employees, i could not be more greatful for the amount of experience and opportunities that came with being with this company!….but of course I knew my journey was not over, last fall I was approached by a very close friend and fellow makeup artist with an amazing opportunity to start teaching at one of the most prestige makeup schools in California “Cosmo makeup academy”, I couldn’t believe that I was being asked to have my own classes with my own students where I would be teaching them my techniques and mentoring them to be amazing makeup artist. It was bittersweet since I knew I had to leave Morphe in order to pursue teaching So I could be 100% all in my teaching career but I knew my time had come to make the change and push myself out of retail makeup, it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I’m now part of a team with some of the best makeup artists in the industry and have the most amazing students that inspire me to keep doing what I love.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! Being a professional makeup artist has its ups and down BUT in the years of working in the industry I’ve realized that your success will only go as far as you’re willing to. Things are never set in stone and avoid being “comfortable” at all cost! No one is going to do the work for you.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Wow lol this is a tough one! I want to do so much but have to remember that things happen at their own pace, I’m going to continue doing what I love but my dream in the future would be to have my own studio where people can rent out a space and take amazing photos/videos with professional photographers like I did. This would be my way of giving back and helping people who are just starting their journey.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Playing music with my sisters and dad…it taught me that you can start being creative at any age! And getting my cat NUNU I EFFING love her.
