Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Beatriz.
Anna, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a singer-songwriter born in São Paulo, the industrial capital of Brazil, and shortly after moved to Santos. I grew up surrounded by music with my brother singing and playing the guitar in our living room. I used to spend hours singing with him just because I loved! I started playing the piano when I was eight years old and had my first band when I was 14. That’s when I started writing poems (that later became songs). Once my band broke up, I decided to venture into a solo project as singer. So I invested in my own songwriting and became a solo artist, releasing my first album at 21 in my native language, “Sobre Nós” (About Us, 2005).
I grew up dreaming in studying music abroad. When the time came, I moved to Los Angeles to study voice at “Musicians Institute” in Hollywood and focused on songwriting and performance. Before graduating, I released my second solo project (now English focused) “Beautiful Ride”, an EP with smooth jazz and pop influences. It’s lead single, “Beautiful Ride,” received a Global Music Award. In 2014, I was selected to showcase at NACA (National Association for Campus Activities). As a result, I toured colleges on the West Coast for the next year. During this time, I had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with Grammy and Academy Award Winning producer and musician AR Rahman (“Slumdog Millionaire”) creating music for Pelé: The Birth of a Legend (Imagine Entertainment), a film about one of the biggest soccer players who also hails from my hometown Santos. The feature song, Ginga (2016) has nearly 3 million views on YouTube and was eligible for “Best Song of the Year” in the Oscars 2017.
I’ve always been very passionate about Mental Health and after going through a season where I had to stop doing music for a while and help my husband with a brain tumor recovery – I’ve learned even more about myself and we, as a family, had to go through it together, grow emotionally and learn how to manage our thoughts and expectations. When he was fully recovered and I came back to a new season of doing music and life, I’ve decided to write songs to inspire people and bring light to whatever situation they would be going through. I am excited for the songs that are going to be released in this second semester and I can’t wait to talk more about life and share experiences in the future projects. We are to evolve together. Music is all about connection.
Anna will release new music in 2019 that will showcase her love of different cultures, her faith, and a vulnerability that will connect with audiences around the world. This new music project shows her sophisticated musicality which balances her smooth and earthy voice, along with infectious songwriting highlighting her Brazilian roots. Her studio team includes producer & mastering guru, Dale Becker (Khalid, Neil Diamond) and vocal director, Dennis Lamar. This new music sparks a new band and performances at colleges, festivals and notable venues as part of her tour for 2020.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We just need to be alive to be challenged. I am blessed to be able to do what I love and call it work at the same time. For me the biggest challenge involved moving to a different country where you have no family or friends; where you need to learn a different language and culture and go through several different visas to be able to legally stay and do what you love. I am beyond grateful that today, after eight years living in LA, I can call this place home, have family and friends and be free to do music the way I do. Pursuing Music in LA was a very challenging but beautiful journey.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
This is a new season in my career. Sharing music with the World has more meaning to me than ever before. I love music, I love writing, I love connecting. At this moment, I am working on a series of songs that will later become an EP and these songs are more than just songs: they carry a message of connection, love, hope, being who you truly are and loving yourself. The goal is to bring light to every single person who listens to the songs. My debut in this season happens on September 27th, 2019. I am releasing an original song I co-wrote with Aubrey Logan (also featured on the track) called “ALIVE” along with the official video clip. “ALIVE” is an anthem of hope, dreaming, not giving up and living life to the fullest.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Definitely being in the living room singing like there’s no tomorrow with my brother when I was nine years old.
