Today we’d like to introduce you to Troy Lazaris.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Troy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was 19 in Greece (where I am from) and a friend of mine, who is a makeup artist, asked me if I could take a job she had no time for. I had no idea about makeup, but I took my friend’s bag and went for it. It turned out to be a short film and they even needed me to do special effects makeup. I had no idea what I was doing, but I followed my instincts. A year later I got my first award for best makeup for that short film! After that, I continued as a makeup artist in Athens, London, Barcelona, Amsterdam and finally in LA, where I’ve been for the last seven years.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has never been a smooth road and that’s how I knew I was on the right track. I have lived in 5 different countries throughout my career and every single time I had to start from zero. It feels I’ve had five different lives so far. I have always wanted to explore as many cultures as possible before I land in LA, which was my dream growing up as a kid.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a face painter. I have worked for chanel as a manager/trainer for four years and lately as a freelancer for music videos, editorials, commercials and celebrities. I am known for my transformations, however my clients call me the king of eyebrows! What sets me apart from the rest is my ability to be an active listener, discover the woman and create a customized look for her. I use different techniques and tools to every client.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Makeup won’t be about making us pretty or covering discolorations; it will be an expression of who we truly are. It will be a way for both women and men to show their true character and colors on a daily basis.
