Meet Trailblazer Arielle Antoine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arielle Antoine.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Arielle. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I got my start by mistake as an assistant to celeb stylist Maryam Malakpour. My first styling assistant job with her was going on tour with her then clients The Rolling Stones. I might of only steamed clothes and gotten water, but she was very generous in teaching me about fabrics and design. I continued on assisting her and other celeb stylists for the following 4-5 years until striking out on my own and building my own clientele.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’m not sure there is such a thing as a smooth road. Ha. Getting to where I am now, and continually striving towards the future always provides challenges. What I can say, is that persistence and a commitment to your own success are essential in any level of career or personal growth.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I work as a stylist and costume designer for commercials, television, music, and film. I love what I do and I love that I tap on each category as the opportunity arises. My personal favorite projects are the ones that require period costuming and custom design pieces. This sparks my love of history, characters, and fantasy.

I would say what sets me apart from the others, if you’re asking, is my empathy in reading people and finding what works best not only for their body type but for their spirit. This allows them to wear the clothing with confidence… which always shines brighter.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
My best advice for networking and finding a mentor is never letting an opportunity pass you by!
Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself, show interest, and a desire to learn. These are attractive traits for anyone looking to mentor someone and will set you apart from those that are trying to play it cool.
Once you are in, being on time and working working working hard and retaining a pleasant attitude to be around are essential!
