Meet Beea

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beea.

Beea, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Brazil, the daughter of a professional musician, well known locally, and my dad was the biggest music lover I ever met in my life. I grew up in a house where there was music 24 hours a day. Rehearsals, serenades, gigs, productions; all of these were very common in my house on the weekdays, always frequented by countless friends and fellow musicians of my father. On the weekends, they played shows all over the region. I’ve been lucky enough to be able to participate in all of this since when I was a baby.

My mother accompanied my father on almost every show, and always took the three daughters with her. I fell in love with my father’s work at five years old and since then, I always knew that this was my mission in the world. I performed, toured and worked with my dad until I was 20 years old, then I moved to the capital of my state, to pursue a better career. There I sang in a few top 40’s bands and worked as a background singer for countless artists.

That was a time of a lot of learning, although very difficult. Even thou I was not a beginner in the music industry, my previous boss was my dad!

After some years working as a hired singer for a few bands in Sao Paulo, I signed my first contract with an independent label in Italy in 2012. I worked with this label for almost two years, it was a magnificent time, and I had the opportunity to learn a lot of what I would need to pursue an international career. The fact that I was still living in Brazil during this time made it a little unfeasible to continue in the label.

I kept working as a hired singer in Sao Paulo until 2016 when I moved to Los Angeles and my life completely changed. I never planned, never dreamed, never even thought about moving to LA. I had just broken up with a boyfriend, and I wanted to disappear from the planet! Lol, I was so heartbroken, and a trip would be the best way to forget him and reconnect with myself to get through the hard time. One day I opened a map, closed my eyes, and pointed my finger somewhere on that map. My finger pointed in California. Right there, I decided that I would move to Los Angeles (without ever visiting California before) and I still remember the strong energy crossing my body in that moment. It sounds crazy and it feels crazy too.

Today, after three years in Los Angeles and seeing my career taking form of what I had dreamed from childhood, I realized that I came here guided by a much larger force. This place is where I always wanted to be and pursue a career, without even knowing. I only knew that I wanted to be a great artist, and the rest was up to the universe.

Has it been a smooth road?
There isn’t an easy road for an artist; it is full of curves, sometimes without signs, and most times, you do not know where it will take you… It takes a lot of love and determination to keep walking on this road, especially after falls, and after many frustrated attempts. But that’s what makes it fun. Because of my profession, my life has been an adventure since I was a kid, and I couldn’t see myself doing anything else.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a Brazilian singer and songwriter currently living in Los Angeles. I’m part of the new wave of completely self-empowered female artists bringing my voice to the pop music world. I have firmly become the artist I wanted to be. “I’m a woman. I’m Latin. I’m strong. I’m smart. I’m a feminist. I’m also romantic. And spiritual. I can use my voice as a singer to talk about all these elements of my life and use it to connect with people.”

In the past couple of years, I released a few singles and videos. They attracted a core group of fans who related to my honesty and passion. And then I boldly took some time off to learn more about the industry, and about myself. I have attended the Musician’s Institute to get the education to confidently control my own business. And then I got back to writing, recording, and producing new material. I am an independent artist, I manage my own career. And this is my biggest strength.

I performed at the Latin Grammys with Luis Fonsi’s band as a background vocalist when “Despacito” won 4 awards and that was a huge moment in my career.

My song “Ride or Die” was a semi-finalist in the Song of the Year Songwriting Contest.

My latest song and music video, “Permission” reflects the impact of patriarchy on women, and messages that women can do and be whatever they want because “I don’t need permission.” The video – conceived and co-produced by myself and directed by Kyndra Kennedy – is a stunning visual representation of all the aspects of empowered womanhood.
