Meet Zedra Slaton of Little Prospects in South Central LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zedra Slaton.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up, I had young parents. My parents had me at the age of 15 years old. Being a parent at that age and still being in High School my parents didn’t have it all. Growing up I remember My friends in Chino CA were nice, friendly and nonmaterialistic. We rode bikes, played hockey and roller bladed all day. When my parents moved back to LA I was in the 3rd grade. I attended Hyde Park elementary and I remember the kids being mean, materialistic and lots of bullies. They made fun of you because of what you wore. Compared to the kids in Chino they didn’t care about materialistic items because they were to busy being kids.

As I got older once in middle school and High School my parents didn’t buy me Jordan’s, Adidas and Nike’s every time they came out like how all the other kids parents did. We couldn’t afford it. The only time I would Get a pair of new shoes was when Footlocker had their back to school sale where you could get two pair of shoes for 79.99. You could get the low top pumas in colors red, navy blue and green, the shell toe Adidas in black or white or some all-white forces.

Being in a predicament like made me think about all the other kids who may be going through the same thing I’m going through. Having young parents who can’t afford 100-200$ shoes every other week for their children. That’s when it hit me and I realized that I wanted to create my own kids shoe line for the children who like to be different and not follow behind others fashionable style. Kids who want to set their own trends and want to stand out from everybody else. Kids who aren’t afraid of what other have to say about their style because it’s not what everybody else is wearing.

I created Little Prospects so children today can still be kids because we as adults today allow our children to attach their self worth to material items. To the point they feel as if they have to have the latest pair of Jordan’s that came out in order to be accepted. Little Prospects wants to inspire children to not give into the pressures of materialism but to set their own trends and celebrate their individuality. Boasting bright colors that all kids will love and a very affordable price, I designed Little Prospects to reflect some of my favorite childhood memories, cartoons. Can you guess the characters.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been smooth and rough. Everybody who you think would support you don’t support you. They want discounts, they want their kids to be models for free product, etc.

Other struggles are finding buyers to put my product in big retail stores. It may be a struggle now but I know once my brand comes across the right person I will make a lot of children and parents happy because they will know they can walk into a target or Walmart and find an affordable and fashionable shoe that their kids will love.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Now more than ever, kids want to express themselves through their creativity and fashion. In an age where celebrities, bloggers and influencers set trends, parents are struggling to justify the investment of popular streetwear shoe brands like Nike, Adidas and Jordan, for their children who are constantly growing. No kid wants to and should not feel left out or looked down upon for not having the newest high-priced release. Enter Little Prospects, a series of fashionable kid’s sneakers with a nostalgic twist allowing every child to set their own trend. Kids love the colors and parents love the price

I specialize in designing the shoes and coming up the designs. I’m most proud of my company because I have A lot to offer and the feedback that people give me everyday keeps me going. You can buy all four pairs of my shoes for under 100$ that’s a blessing to some parents who have more than one child and don’t have a lot of money to buy their kids decent shoes.

What sets me apart from others is that I put all my heart into my designs. When you look at my shoe designs they remind you of something and will definitely put a smile on your face.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes of course I feel that my city is great place to start a business because there are a lot of minorities living in Southern California. It’s a good opportunity to introduce my kid’s shoe line to the parents who want to buy their kids good quality shoes at a reasonable price.

If someone was just starting out, I would recommend them starting out here because there are many opportunities for business in Southern California.
