Meet Janeth Hurtado of Zozo Bean Bakery in San Fernando Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janeth Hurtado.

Janeth, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2015, our daughter Zoey was born with a rare liver disease called Biliary Atresia. She was in need of a liver transplant and we spent seven months living at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. I had to leave my job in order to be with our daughter and never left her side.

When Zoey was seven months and 15 days old, her little body couldn’t take it anymore and we lost our beautiful warrior. During her journey she gained many facebook followers and 90% of the people at her funeral were actually people we didn’t know from facebook. We started our bakery in honor of Zoey, Zozo Bean was her nickname. With every cake we get to share her story, spread awareness, and inspire people to become organ donors. It keeps us going and we have been so blessed with all the support of all our clients.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting out on our own is challenging, having enough overhead to hire help isn’t always there. We still are a two person show but we love what we do!

Please tell us about Zozo Bean Bakery.
We are a bakery. We specialize in all buttercream cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. We do wedding, birthday, and special occasion cakes. We donate a percentage of your purchase to liver disease research and organ donation awareness.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I don’t think I would do anything differently. We are where we are because of the path we took 🙂
