Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalia Barzotti.
Natalia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was first introduced to the skincare industry by my mother. She worked as an esthetician and owned a salon for years, and I followed her to classes and conferences as a little girl. It makes sense, then, that I was the resident skincare guru amongst my high school friends. I remember having mask parties and giving out remedies for our teenage acne. But when I finished high school, I was set on working in marketing and advertising. Skincare wasn’t even on my radar as being a possible career for myself. It was such a joy and passion and I thought “work” needed to be corporate and 9 to 5. But after working in that world for some time, I realized that I was missing out on my passion. I knew in my heart that I needed to go back to my roots and start my professional career in skincare.
I went back to school and worked in a day spa on the side. Within a year I was renting a big room inside of a hair salon. Soon I moved to a new location, where I rented a room inside of a nail salon. And now, some 12 years down this road, I have a space of my own: Beauty Lab Skincare. My passion lies not only practicing skincare but teaching it. Beauty Lab Skincare provides me with the space to provide customized treatments. I talk with each client and learn their skin history and type, and together we come up with a cohesive plan of skincare action that the client can integrate into their daily routine at home. It’s true: skincare teaches us discipline and forces us into a healthy routine, but skincare also teaches us how to listen to our bodies. Our skin tells us exactly what it needs. When I am helping a client with their skin, my primary goal is to help them understand how to listen to what their body is saying. The results are just the icing on the cake.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Achieving your lifelong dream never entails going down a smooth road – it’s always a bumpy ride. Despite my mother’s involvement in the business, she always stepped back and let me fly on my own, which taught me the value of hard work and pure determination. My husband has been by my side through it all. Even in high school, he was always telling me I needed to go into the skincare business. After we got married, he did everything he could to help and support me when I made the decision to leave my job in marketing and go back to school to become an esthetician.
Even though I left the corporate world behind, I think my years of experience in that world has helped me become a better businesswoman and business owner today. Still, having a family that is dedicated to helping me shine makes all the difference in the world. As I was renting back rooms in salons and changing locations every few years, my family understood my desire to have a place of my own to practice and teach. The Beauty Lab Skincare sign went up in August of 2018, and when the lights turned on my family and I shared a special moment of fulfillment. I hope that in seeing this process my daughter realizes that she can have it all: a loving spouse, a happy family, and a career that continues to reward her everyday.
Beauty Lab Skincare – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Beauty Lab Skincare offers top-quality customized skincare and beauty treatments. I specialize in facials, which are at the core of our mission at Beauty Lab Skincare. With my customized facials, I work to maintain healthy, glowing skin by catering my treatments to each client and their skin’s needs. I always suggest regular, monthly treatments as a routine treatment cycle is the most effective way to ensure results for our clients. Aside from our skincare treatments, we proudly offer lash lifts, microblading, and brow sculpting. Our team of highly-trained and licensed estheticians is dedicated to helping our clients achieve their skin and beauty goals. In our recent partnership with Dr. Paul Rohdenburg, MD, we have expanded our treatment menu to include medical grade chemical and enzyme peels, as well as facial dermal fillers and Botox. There is no better reward for me than seeing my clients return happier and more confident than ever before because of what we have been able to accomplish with their skin. I am proud to share my knowledge and experience with clients everyday.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success by happiness. I have dedicated myself to helping my clients achieve happy, healthy skin so that they can proudly say that they feel good. We’re happiest when we feel confident in ourselves! To me, success isn’t just dollar signs or titles, it’s living your life as authentically as possible. It’s having a healthy marriage, still in love with my highschool sweetheart. Success means maintaining my role as an active mother and spending time with my beautiful, healthy children while also putting my heart and passion into my career. I wear so many hats: businesswoman, esthetician, business owner, mom, wife, sister, and daughter.
