Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalia Ulic.
Natalia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was working as a physician in my native Serbia after graduating with honors from Medical University of Novi Sad. After moving to the United States, I used my love of medical research to learn everything I could about skincare. I interned with skincare pioneer Martha Weinstein 15 years ago and opened my own business several years later.
I have worked in medical spas, doctors offices, and salons at Santa Monica, West Los Angeles, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Redondo Beach, and Newport Beach. I am so grateful I had the chance to work at this different places because I was able to get different experiences from each place. My clientele is the result of this experience. Finally, I opened my space at the Wellness Center “Awaken Now”. I am excited to be a part of the team of acupuncturist, chiropractor, EMS, and Pilates specialist. It is a one stop shop wellness center where you can come to be healthy and beautiful inside and out.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My main obstacle was to learn English while advancing my career and raising my son. Working at the different places in So California, the big challenge was a heavy traffic, Spending daily one to three hours in a car instead of with my son, was a really big challenge. I met no professional obstacles because of my medical background. I was able to contribute my knowledge.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Skin by Natalia – what should we know?
My business is currently the part of the team at the Wellness Center “Awekennow”. My signature facial is nonsurgical facelift with micro current, called Facial Toning. I like to call Facial Toning – “gym for the face”. My clients come once a week for this one hour treatment. Besides lifting, toning, rejuvenating, re-energizing, microcurrent supports immune and endocrine system. I feel passion for any treatment which gives benefits for the whole body, from inside out. Besides microcurrent facial, I have developed a unique facial concept that incorporates the best aspects of the classical European and the modern American facials. I am fully qualified to rejuvenate, revitalize, and balance client’s skin using all of my skills to approach every specific beauty need. Beside microcurrent, I utilize all the latest technologies including radio frequency, light therapy, needling, and other treatments.
What sets me apart from others is that I enjoy educating my clients and treating them individually with the deeper medical knowledge then other aestheticians have. I believe these skills make me unique. The most proud makes me to see that Facial Toning is not just a face lifting, it is emotional lifting as well.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I was lucky to have a mentor who introduced me and thought me about nonsurgical facelift with microcurrent. As well, I learned from my mentor how to run the business. My mentor was Martha Weinsten, the pioneer of Facial Toning, non-invasive or nonsurgical facelift. She helped me to develop my business when she retired and left me all her clients. In combination with her and my clients, I could finally stop working at the other places and start to be on my own. My supporters are all my clients, specially clients who follow me from the beginning of my career. As well my supporters are my colleges with whom I exchange the experiences. As well, we recommend clients to each other since we have different specialties. We don’t see each other as competitors.
