Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Saucedo.
Brenda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was six years old when I knew I wanted to work in the entertainment industry. I always enjoyed telling stories, so like any person trying to break into Hollywood I started doing acting. Once I got into college, I noticed the lack of diversity in front and behind the camera and the absence of latinx stories. While working full time at a warehouse and going to college full time I geared my attention from acting to directing and writing. I began writing stories of people who felt their voices weren’t bring heard. I began writing and directing short films. Each of my short films contain a diverse cast with a powerful story behind it. I’ve been honored to win a few awards and recognition on some of my shorts.
After graduating college, I landed a coordinator job in the diversity & inclusion department at NBC where I currently still work at. I still continue to write and direct, so I literally have no days off. But I love what I do.
A year ago, I started my production company BE CONTAGIOUS. It started with me doing monthly videos of people who were making a difference in their community. The first Monday of every month I highlight an individual who goes far and beyond to inspire others. The message of my production/work overall is to spread positively and knowledge thru storytelling. Film has the power to change the world, so I decide to use this talent to change the world.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has NOT been a smooth road. There has been a lot of bumps and potholes along the way. I was the first in my family to want to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, so starting off I didn’t know anyone! Everything I know now was thru school, work and networking.
Please tell us about Be Contagious.
My company BE CONTAGIOUS is a year old. We are just starting out, but we focus on creating content. I specifically specialize in directing, writing and finding people for our monthly #MondayMotivation videos. We are a small team or writers and filmmakers right now, but we all enjoy what we do and will continue to create content.
What makes BE CONTAGIOUS different is that our work is genuine and sincere. We do it for the love of storytelling. We are dedicated on finding those unheard stories and shining a light on people who feel don’t have a voice.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I have so many! I was a wild child with a huge imagination. I loved playing dress-up with my brother and re-enacting scenes from TV Novelas.
