Today we’d like to introduce you to Haven Schulz.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was a personal trainer up in Northern California and did not have any plans of leaving, but in 2016 an amazing opportunity came up to have my own space here in Laguna Beach! I did not want to wonder “what if” so I decided to take a leap of faith and give it my all. When I moved down, I did not know one person in this town. I spent a few months setting the studio up and then I literally pounded the pavement going around town meeting the community and potential clients. Once I got a handful of clients, I really started pushing Instagram content. Sharing clips of workouts and pictures with clients on social media is my number one marketing tool. Going from not knowing one person to having an amazing clientele and calling Laguna Beach home has been the craziest experience of my life! I am so glad I went for it, so I wouldn’t have to be wondering “what if.”
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Figuring out how to build up a clientele in a new town was the trickiest part. I started with handing out card, posting flyers, offering complimentary workouts to businesses, etc. And eventually social media content is what brings new clientele to the studio.
Running a business on my own is another challenge, but it comes with its rewards. I work hard to not let the sometimes stressful side of owning a business outweigh my love of being a personal trainer.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Health Haven Studio – what should we know?
Health Haven Studio is a private personal training studio. I am basically my clients’ personal assistant of all things fitness and nutrition-based. Every plan is personalized to fit the clients’ schedules, goals, lifestyle, preferences, etc. I also implement a lot of online training and accountability with my clients so they stay on track with their exercise and nutrition on days they do not come to the studio. I tell my clients, “YOUR goals are MY goals.” I will work just as hard alongside them to get to the goals they want to reach.

My family! I could not have done this without them. They helped make this dream of mine possible and I use that as motivation. From getting the space I have at the studio, painting, hauling equipment, paperwork, etc. I had so much help! I want this business to thrive not just for myself and my clients, but for my family. The success of Health Haven has been such an amazing way to say thank you to all of them.
