Today we’d like to introduce you to Alina Smith & Elli Moore.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We initially started as strictly best friends/roommates; we had written together here and there, but mostly spent our time hanging out and getting into trouble. We were in Nashville, TN at the time and had both been writing for our own different projects; when I (Elli) decided to make the switch from country to pop music, Alina kindly offered to help write and produce some tracks with/for me, which turned into us being inseparably together every day. That turned into us writing for K-Pop (Korean Pop), and having some success there turned into us needing to be in LA all the time, so we decided to make the move out here. We’ve been in LA for three years now and are really lucky to be where we are, writing and producing all types of pop music for different artists!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Luckily, we have actually had so much fun on our journey! I think the best piece of advice we could offer women/ anyone in the industry is to partner up with another creative! The reason we feel like we have had such a smooth ride is that we have each other. We are stronger in numbers, and a solid team will move quickly because members of a good team will all have different strengths. We find that we really compliment each other and feel very confident in what we do because we aren’t alone. This industry can be scary, but when you are certain someone has your back, you feel fearless.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with LYRE – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We are a female music production and writing duo called LYRE. We are most known for working with Mackenzie Ziegler, Gabbie Hanna, Betty Who, Niki and Gabi, and Elli Moore, who is half of LYRE’s solo project. We are two females working to help develop music acts at all different levels, and we bring a feminine edge to our work, that you can spot immediately when you hear it!
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Elli: I know for me, I was always super inspired by women, who have such an electric presence on stage such as Britney Spears. Performing was and still is a huge part of my life so when I see someone who can capture a room, I’m fully invested.
Alina: Growing up in Russia had been a double-edged sword for me. On one hand, it had felt like growing up in a cultural capsule, and it took me close to a decade to get fully immersed in the culture of the US, which has played a huge part in developing my musical sense. On the other hand, growing up in a culture fixated on excellence has made me always strive to do my best at anything I undertake, which, I believe, is the main reason I hadn’t been intimidated by the idea of teaching myself production and dived right in.
