Meet Esther Urquiza of Esther Urquiza Therapeutic Services in Tarzana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Esther Urquiza.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Esther. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
While studying to become a Hypnotherapist, I worked as a respected and seasoned publicist and PR specialist for the entertainment industry at The Herrera Agency. I started my career at Arenas Entertainment in 2008 as a media coordinator and a year later transitioned into publicity. My background in entertainment client services and media provided me the strength to grow and execute successful publicity campaigns that represented major studios like Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Relativity, Media Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros. I also worked with organizations like the Archdioceses of Los Angeles and the Knights of Columbus. As my career in the industry developed, my expertise grew in the Latino demographics, mostly media and event coordination, management, and production. In the Latino market, I had the pleasure of working with Univision, Telemundo, Comcast, NBC Universal, and Universal Latin Entertainment.

The reason I transitioned from publicity to hypnotherapy, is it fueled my passion and devotion for helping others. In 2016, I graduated with honors from the Hypnosis Motivational Institute and I now incorporate clients from the entertainment industry to help their success.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it wasn’t always smooth sailing. I was a college dropout and being offered the position at Arenas Entertainment with no marketing background was a blessing: however; I did have to work hard to immerse myself with knowledge for the position. I was able to prove to myself and others that I kicked ass at it, but that wasn’t enough for me; my passion wasn’t there. It was just a job, nothing else. See, I loved helping others and this job wasn’t doing that for me, so I asked myself, “How am I helping humanity?” I didn’t want to settle and stay at a place just because I was “too old for a new career” or my salary didn’t match. I did take some time to think about this career change, but my intuition was nudging me. I had this gut feeling something was going to change next year in May, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. Early 2014, it hit me: I had to leave this career soon or life wasn’t going to do it for me and it wasn’t going to be pretty. I listened to that inner voice that said it’s time to move on, so I did. It wasn’t easy; that job was my security blanket, it’s all I knew and I was great at it. Plus, starting over brought up the fear of NOT leaving; I had my expenses to look out for.

Now, I have a great support team so I took the plunge with no back-up (no job). I asked God / the creator for assistance in finding a career where I can help others: I requested a clear sign that I can understand. In August 2015, my prayers were answered with two signs. The first sign was the city, Tarzana. My first time there, I looked at the city sign and it felt magnified, larger than life. We parked and walked to the restaurant and I felt the need to turn and look to my right-it felt like someone said look over there. To my surprise, I saw a billboard on a building that read “Hypnosis Motivation Institute”. I said, “Okay, if that’s not a clear sign, I don’t know what is”! Soon after, I signed up for a tour of the school and I received the call that I had been accepted; then I signed up that evening. It is one of the best decision I’ve ever made. I learned so much about myself and others, and I’m able to be more compassionate and empathetic of others now that my understanding of human behavior has evolved.

Tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Well, I am a Certified Hypnotherapist which is to say a therapist who utilizes hypnosis as a primary tool for assisting clients to achieve their goals. A Hypnotherapist often differs from others therapists by focusing on the role of subconscious behaviors and influences on the client’s life. – Reference: https://hypnosis.edu/glossary/h

I am bilingual (fluent in English and Spanish), I am dedicated to providing the best in community services and humanitarian contributions. I strive to make positive changes every day by making sure my clients, community, and organization are always evolving.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan to expand my business and educate others about Hypnotherapy. I will be at LatinaFest 2019 on Sunday, August 25th at Plaza de Cultura y Arte performing personalized Handwriting Analysis sessions alongside my fellow Hypnotherapist Victoria Chow. We will give insight into exploring your own personality traits through your handwriting and how we incorporate it in hypnotherapy.
