Today we’d like to introduce you to Ella Fairon.
Ella, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was 14, I was raped by two well-known athletes from my high school. I refused to stay silent about what had happened to me, which lead me to be a subject in the Netflix Documentary “Audrie and Daisy.” This was my first true experience with the art of filmmaking. Although I was one of the subjects of the documentary, watching how the filmmakers (whom I became very close with) were able to share our story and make a true impact through the creation of this film developed a fire inside of me. I vividly remember walking on stage after “Audrie & Daisy” premiered at Sundance 2016 and having this overwhelming desire to make creating impactful and meaningful films my career. Since that moment, I have been working tirelessly to create content and stories that will make an everlasting impact. I started my own production company called Lancelot Media inc. that focuses (not exclusively) on female-driven stories using female-driven crews. My company is currently producing a follow up to the Netflix documentary called “Saving Daisy” – produced not only by myself and my production company but also by the actress Torrey DeVitto from “Vampire Diaries,” “One Tree Hill,” “Pretty Little Liars,” and most recently “Chicago Med.”
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been somewhat of a roller coaster experience, just like any other aspect of life. I feel like anything worth working for is never just a smooth road. The hardest thing for me, being a young 21-year-old female has been being taken seriously by my male colleagues and older male “higher-ups.” I’ve really had to prove myself and I think I have succeeded in many ways with the projects I’ve done thus far. I feel now more than ever that there is a space for female filmmakers to rise up and tell their stories when there wasn’t a huge space for that before. I never-ending struggle of mine has been opening up and becoming completely vulnerable with my art. As I have grown as a filmmaker, I have really learned to open up and not be afraid to let people see some of the most vulnerable sides of me. This expression of total transparency often leads to amazing art, and I have found this to be true in filmmaking as well.

Our marketing is known to take your business to literally, the next level of consumer reach and engagement. Our production company is known for making truly deep and inspiring films that are intended to leave an everlasting impact on our audiences with the help of largely female crews.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Wow, If I had to start over, I don’t think I would do anything differently. I am happy with the choices I’ve made in my career and the friends and colleagues I have made along the way. Every decision I’ve made and every hardship I’ve faced has enabled me to grow more and more as not only a filmmaker but a woman as well, and for that reason, I have no regrets.
