Meet Kirstie Reese of Sugarface Skincare in Sherman Oaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirstie Reese.

Kirstie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always had a passion for helping people feel good about themselves. This quote by Maya Angelou puts things into perspective for me, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

In my early twenties, I started my career assisting Dr. Marc Kerner who is a facial plastic surgeon/ENT with cosmetic procedures. That is where I fell in love with esthetics and making people feel more confident about themselves and comfortable in their own skin. Fast forward a few years and a few part-time jobs, I was able to open Sugarface Skincare in Sherman Oaks, CA.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I believe that everything truly happens for a reason. I was let go from a part-time job that I loved and it was devastating at the time but it gave me the “PUSH” that I needed to open Sugarface. Every job has given me experience, hands on training and knowledge that I can apply every day at Sugarface.

Recently, I came across a post on social media that explains the emotional roller coaster of what it’s like to be a business owner. One minute you’re like “Ok, I got this! Everything’s going great. I don’t know what I was so worried about.” and the next minute you’re freaking out, “What was I thinking? I’m going bankrupt..etc.” Then, everything works out in the end.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sugarface Skincare – what should we know?
Sugarface specializes in acne treatments, eyebrow waxing, and eyelash extensions. I also offer microdermabrasion, Cosmedix facial peels, and relaxation facials. Sugarface is best known on social media for our blue peel-off mask which contains aloe Vera and collagen to help reduce redness, inflammation, promote healing and soothe the skin after extractions.

Our acne treatment is not a “one size fits all approach” because not everyone’s skin responds the same to treatments and products. I use a combination of facials, peels and home care products to treat the skin for the best results. The most important things to me is that my clients are educated about their skin. I want people to know what products to use on their skin, when to use it and why they’re using it before purchasing anything from me.

I think what sets Sugarface apart is that I genuinely care about my clients. They’re not just another dollar sign walking through my door and that really shows. I’m not afraid to tell my clients, “No, this product isn’t good for you or No, you’re not ready for this treatment yet.” I am really proud of that.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My significant other deserves a lot of credit for putting up with me and supporting my decision to become an esthetician. He is amazing and I probably wouldn’t have had the courage to start Sugarface without him.
