Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiana Lowe.
Tiana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my journey as an entrepreneur because I was a girl that just wanted more out of her life. I was on the county getting food stamps and cash aid. I was on Section 8 and I felt my life wasn’t going anywhere. For me, I hit rock bottom and I couldn’t see the light. So I decided to change my life. I always had a passion for doing hair and makeup. It is what I went to school for. I already was a licensed cosmetologist and a certified makeup artist so I used the skills that I already had and built on them.
It wasn’t easy in the beginning I worked seven days a week. I would go to my fulltime job in the morning and get off and go straight to the shop and do hair. I worked like this for a while. I was fortunate to find a lady name Ashaki that believed in me and she took a chance on me. Once that door was open I hit the ground running and never looked back. I went from doing pop-ups at her Beauty Supply store to opening my salon in her store to owning the whole store. I worked hard to get where I am today and I still have work to do. I will continue to build the life that I want.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This road has not always been easy. I had to work on myself and my mind state. It seems like the better I became and the better I felt about myself the more people I lost. As things started to grow in my business I had to learn how to function in business. I had to learn how to navigate and build relationships with people. You need people in order to have a successful business and that was one area that I needed to work on the most. I also had to deal with the fact that I was losing time with my family. I have four kids and I am the type of parent that wants to be involved in everything that they do but because I was building a business a lot of my time was spent away from them.
I think one of my biggest challenges was not allowing people’s personal choices affect my self-esteem and how I see myself. When we think of success as individuals we always think of what life would be like and who we would share that life with. And to be completely honest it’s nothing how you imagined it or the people you imagine you would celebrate with are not even around.
Pampered Goddess Lounge – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I own a beauty supply and Salon. We are your one-stop-shop for all your beauty needs women can come in and not only get their hair done and their makeup done but be in an environment that empowers other women to succeed. We are fortunate enough to not only work inside the salon but work outside the salon doing music videos photo shoots commercials Etc. My biggest passion in this industry has to be makeup I absolutely love doing makeup. It allows me to release my creative side.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I have define success by my growth. I look back and see the woman that I used to be compared to the woman that I am today and that alone makes me successful. The growth that I have accomplished Within Myself gives me so much joy so much strength. My Success can never be taken from me once you have learned something and you practice it in your daily life it becomes a part of you and no matter where you going no matter what happens you will always have that with you. Something tragic could happen today but the knowledge that I have gained in the last four years will be with me forever and because of that, I will always be able to obtain a building or store or work in this industry. Even if I decided to switch Industries the knowledge and the skills and the information that I have learned will follow me everywhere that I go and that is what true success is.
