Meet Alec Lucero of Risk Media

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alec Lucero.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It was about this time last year (June 2018) when I graduated high school. I was supposed to be getting ready for college, but that wasn’t in my best interest. I always wanted to be a Youtuber, I loved that you could get paid for making dope videos. So right when I graduated high school, I used all my money to my name and bought myself a camera. I spent all summer going out and networking, not really focusing on my editing. It wasn’t until around September when I met DŸLN and I started to work with him. It was a very new atmosphere transitioning from the hip hop industry to EDM. I continued to work with him, I even moved in with him and the owners of HB ENTERTAINMENT. Then I got the opportunity to film Rolling Loud LA for an artist by the name of 24KGOLDN.

That really gave me my big break, so shoutout to 24KGOLDN for the opportunity. The new year started and my name was more out there, which meant more projects to work on. I have really just spent this year focusing on my craft, getting better at editing, and meeting other fellow creators within the EDM industry. I have now just recently started my own media team RISK MEDIA, which consists of the best videographers and photographers in the industry. We really plan on changing the norm of what a media team can and can’t do. As for the rest of my story, I can’t really tell you about it. It is still being written as we speak.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road. My parents haven’t really accepted the fact that I want to do video and editing for a living. They don’t see it as a real job since I am still a freelancer. This new generation works very differently when it comes to work and opportunities. Especially social media. It is hard to make them understand that. It just makes me want to work harder, so I can show them that all of this is paying off. I also didn’t have a car when I first started, so I was really just trying to find any way to get from point A to point B. Being 18 comes with problems as well. I always have to try and find a way to get into 21 and up venues.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the RISK MEDIA story. Tell us more about the business.
RISK MEDIA is a media team that consists of the best visual creators in the industry. We provide media coverage for artists, festivals, and brands. We are known for our unique style of festival recaps, photography, and concert visuals. We are proud that we are able to have a spot in the industry to work with talented individuals consistently. The people behind the scenes don’t usually get the recognition they deserve. We are really trying to change that with this team. We aren’t your typical media team. I say that because we are focusing on more than just the festival recaps and photography. We have a podcast which we will be interviewing your favorite artists, and influencers. We also have a blog which will consist of articles of new music releases, and current trends that are happening. Lastly, we have been working on visual sets for artists to use while they perform from small concerts all the way to festivals.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck has been both good and bad. Giving me amazing opportunities one day and knocking me down the next day. Luck has humbled me greatly. I don’t know what I can expect each day I wake up. I can have everything today and lose everything tomorrow. No matter the circumstances, I will continue to put my all into everything I do.
