Today we’d like to introduce you to Fanny and David Rolland.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
While both David and I were born in Northern France, we relocated to Cannes with our families when we were young. It was there that I was given the opportunity to work alongside my restaurateur parents gaining invaluable experience in all aspects of the business. David, an industry pioneer, acquired over 15 years of experience working in a wide variety of restaurant jobs including serving at Noga Hilton Palace, and working for a large food distribution company. Shortly after meeting in Cannes, we decided to turn our dreams into a reality by opening Miramar Plage on La Croisette and the original Le Petit Paris, both located in Cannes. It was second nature for us, both having spent so many years in the restaurant industry. Due to the success of our first location, we decided to bring Le Petit Paris to Los Angeles in 2015, making it our first restaurant in the United States.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was a very difficult, very long road for us. It took a year to get all the authorizations, alcohol license, and permits. The construction took two years because the El Dorado building is historical and sometimes we had to pause the construction. We had to build all of it from scratch – we built the kitchen, put in an all new air conditioner and put a motor on the top of the building (which is 12 levels). We created a 10,000 square foot restaurant. There was no water, no restrooms, nothing – so we built everything.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Le Petit Paris LA – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The 300-seat restaurant, Le Petit Paris brings a quintessential brasserie dining experience to Downtown LA’s Historic Core. Le Petit Paris is open for brunch, lunch, happy hour, and dinner and serves a wide variety of all the most delicious French foods.
The restaurant is an architectural marvel, designed by us, featuring multiple skylights, two bars, a mezzanine level, and a large outdoor patio. During the daytime, Le Petit Paris provides a tranquil, bright venue, and at night it transforms into an upscale fine dining restaurant with a lounge.
Le Petit Paris – Los Angeles marks the third successful restaurant for us after opening Le Petit Paris and Miramar Beach on the French Riviera. It is as authentic as French food can be in the United States.
We are proud to have been successful with this project because it was a huge adventure. We are just a husband and wife team. It was just us who created Le Petit Paris. We didn’t have an investor, and we put all of our energy and all of our money into this project. We are so proud of what we have made. We are French so we bring the French culture and French experience to all things, including the decor, food, and service.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
First, we need to grow our clientele and continue to develop. DTLA is constructing new developments every day, lots of new hotels, restaurants, and buildings are showing up around us. We think in 2-3 years, the area will be very prosperous and help us to gain more business. We have a boutique cafe also in the El Dorado building, and we need to continue to develop this part. We also have a plan to make a concept bar at the mezzanine and develop the catering side of the business.
