Today we’d like to introduce you to Edward Flores.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I love to create…I welcome the weird, colorful, monstrous, and different creatures that crawl out of my pencil and onto the paper. I like to work with graphic lines and elongated forms, pushing my images into high relief in order to create a surreal, nightmarish juxtaposition between beautiful and grotesque. My inspiration is a mixture between my background as a graffiti and street artist, as well as my love of classic horror films, cartoons, skateboarding, and comic books.
I also love to curate, finding inspiration from my fellow artists and putting everything together to not only host an art show but rather a full immersive experience. I have put together art walks, block parties, and gallery shows all over Los Angeles. I currently host the Block Party at the Mar Vista Artwalk four times a year, as well as curate many of the shows at the Buckwild Gallery in Mar Vista, including my own annual “Creepshow” every October.
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
As an artist, I believe success is in doing what you love. If you enjoy creating, then the money and fame shouldn’t really matter, although it doesn’t hurt 😉 As long as I can continue to create, network, and surround myself with other artists that inspire me to push my creativity, I’m good.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I have all of my work featured on my website www.edrokone.com as well as on my Instagram page with many live stories and updates @edrokone.
I also display my own work along with numerous other artists at the annual Creepshow at the Buckwild Gallery in Mar Vista every October & throughout LA when I can. I host the Mar Vista “Block Party” 4 times a year, & collaborate with Blick Art Materials with a pop-up art show three times a year.
