Today we’d like to introduce you to Nate Flud.
Nate, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was born in San Diego, CA. I grew up listening to a variety of different music which would, later on, give a diversity to understanding and approach to music.
At age six, my father gave me my first drum kit, where I learned the fundamentals of rhythm. From there, I learned different genres of music so I’d understand the aspects of each individual genre. At age 11, my mother and grandmother gave me my first guitar (classical Emilio Esteban) where I would literally play until my fingers bled. I’ve always loved singing, so eventually singing turned into songwriting and about a year into playing guitar, I was given my first electric (peavey squire) where I really delved into expressing different emotions through song.
I’ve played in countless bands from reggae to pop-punk, punk/hardcore, death metal, and so much in between. You learn that as you get older, some don’t continue on with the same passion that you have when it comes to being in a band, or music in general. So at about 17 years old, I really took up hip hop, because it was something I could continue and grow within, on my own. Which I did.
I can honestly say that the music that I’m making now is a natural reflection of myself, and is an honest progression of me as an artist and musician.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I like to call the music I make Progressive Punk. I call it that because it’s a profession of me and a person and as an artist.
I would say the message I like to portray is to have fun. Life is short, and that’s for real. And nothing comes out more comfortable and honest then when it’s fun and from your heart.
If there’s one thing I want people to take from my music, it’s that regardless of what you’re doing, make sure you love what you do and to make sure that you are having fun. If not, what’s the point?
Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
The most important pieces of advice I can give to upcoming artists who are just starting out is to make music that comes from your heart. Don’t follow trends, be a trendsetter. Make music that makes YOU feel happy and the rest will follow. Be real with others but most importantly be real with yourself.
In music, you have to learn that money will most likely not come quick at first, but don’t ever give up. Good things come to those who work toward their dreams, and to those who have patience.
The last piece of advice I have is to be kind to everyone but to keep your circle small.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
