Meet Camal Pugh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camal Pugh. Him and his team share his story with us below.

Please kick things off for us with some background on Camal’s story.
A native of Washington, DC, Camal “C-Note” Pugh has been choreographing and dancing for the past ten years. A decorated and competitive athlete growing up, Camal didn’t begin dancing until his late teen years. A graduate of University of Maryland Baltimore County, Camal has trained in Hip Hop, Ballet, Contemporary, Broadway, Jazz, and African.

Starting late in the industry did not slow Camal’s drive and passion for dance. So far he has had the opportunity to work with Nike, Stellar Awards, Amerie, Betty Who, and Carly Rae Jepson, just to name a few.

I just recently relocated to LA in March in hopes of furthering my dance career. I accomplished all I could in DC and moving here was the next step and reaching my dreams. Moving forward, I hope to motivate and encourage others to not give up on their dreams and keep pushing despite the hurdles life will throw at them.

Camal, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t. It’s been a lot of no’s, people not understanding or agreeing your career choice, whether it be family or dating, the biggest obstacle has been moving out here and starting from scratch. No family, little friends, and never living outside of dc. It’s getting better.

What else should our readers know?
I am a professional choreographer, dancer, and dance teacher. I train and teach in all styles of dance from ballet to hip hop. I specialize in artist development, stage/tour choreography, dancer enhancement, and teaching/motivating upcoming dancers. I’m very proud of the students I have been able to teach so far in my career and how they have flourished. From college graduates to dancing on tours, I am beyond proud of them and the accomplishments of their dreams. I believe what sets me apart from others is that I treat every student as if they are my mentee. I enjoy motivating and inspiring kids to not give up on their art or themselves.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Maybe moving to LA a little earlier and taking more time to invest in myself as much as I did in others. Other than that, I wouldn’t change anything. I loved track and field and the accomplishments I made. Discovering dance at a late age allowed me to face it head on because I was mature to handle it.
