Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Bolshakova.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kate. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in Luxembourg, a tiny country in Europe, which a lot of people whom I’ve come across don’t even know exists. I’ve always known, since a young age, that I wanted to dedicate my life to art, especially acting and music. Unfortunately, the entertainment industry in Luxembourg is pretty much nonexistent, therefore my dream was to move to California, as it seemed impossible for me to make my dreams reality by living back home. One day the opportunity presented itself and I was fortunate enough to pack my bags, leave everything behind, including the people I loved, which wasn’t necessarily easy, and get out of my hometown to pursue what I had always envisioned for myself. I don’t regret any decisions I have made that have brought me to the destination that I am at today, and I am constantly growing and learning every day. As I like to say “I create my own reality” and I cannot wait to see what the future holds.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road so far has had some curves, bumps, and potholes, which it always has and always will and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Although those obstacles and challenges are not the most pleasant at times, I strongly believe that there cannot be any good without the ‘not so good’. Every experience, positive or negative, is always an opportunity to grow and evolve, and every obstacle is an antecedent of a greater thing. I would say the biggest challenge is to remain true to yourself and do what you feel is the right choice, regardless of what others may lead you to believe. Fortunately, I’ve been able to find my voice over the last four years that I’ve lived in LA and I keep working on moving forward without limiting myself in any way.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an actor and singer/songwriter. Initially, I moved to LA to study acting, which has taught me a lot about myself. So far, I was able to be part of some really exciting projects and I continue to work on my craft as there’s always more to learn and to discover. When it comes to my singing and writing, music is one thing I used to always be hesitant about because of my own insecurities and self-doubts. However, last year I decided to step out of my comfort zone and give music a chance, which has been such a wonderful journey. Bolshiee is the artist name that I go by regarding my music and this February I released my debut single “Suffocating” followed by my second song “Tell Me More About It”, released in May, which is something I am very proud of. What sets me apart from others is simply embracing my true self, as I believe that every individual is unique in their own magical way.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I honestly really enjoy living in Los Angeles. I feel more at home here than I have anywhere else. What I like best are all the possibilities and opportunities that the city has. Everyone is given a chance, although not everyone may feel that way. It’s like a treasure-hunt – anyone and everyone can participate but it may take some longer than others to find their treasure, whatever that may be, so you just need to be patient and not give up. What I like the least is probably the heat, as well as the traffic, especially both combined.
