Today we’d like to introduce you to Roy Nelson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Roy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My father was a reconnaissance pilot during WWII in Italy and used the leftover film to take photos of the countryside. Growing up in West Hollywood, I literately don’t know what it is like to be without a camera. My technical work with the pharmaceutical companies requires the use of large format cameras. About 15 years ago, I started coming back to West Hollywood to help in the family business and set up a studio in my space-time.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I was fortunate in having a day job so I could concentrate on getting better.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Roy Nelson Photography – what should we know?
I specialize in fashion and editorial shoots with the occasional fantasy shoot. After all these years and 900 shoots, I now enjoy mentoring new models and designers without criticism but gentle guidance.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Working in West Hollywood, there are a lot of models and actors. Living nearby were a Ford model and an actress that I shot regularly. They got me through my GWC period.
