Meet Adam Chambers of Loft Ensemble Theatre Company in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Chambers.

Adam, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We started almost 14 years ago in the downtown arts district. Three years ago we moved to Sherman Oaks and last month we signed a lease to move into two locations in North Hollywood. We have done over 55 main stage productions and hundreds of comedy, improv, cabaret nights. I’m the artistic director at the theatre and one of the founding members. We have over 70 members now. I certainly don’t do this alone but our team is amazing and we are all about creating a safe place for all types of people to come and do art. If you have a talent we have the place.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Financially, the struggle is real. It’s hard to consistently get people to attend all the shows we do. We produce excellent work on a very low cost. We recycle a lot of materials and have found a way to be very resourceful. I started this when I was 22 years old so learning how to run a business and be in charge of so many people was a challenge but we have a really great team of people that all contribute. It’s a nonprofit so everyone is donating their time.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Loft Ensemble Theatre Company story.
We are a certified nonprofit theatre company. Our members pay dues and we cast our shows from within our company members. Last year I won Artistic Director Achievement Award from CA and our tech director won as well. I was very proud of him because he works so hard. His name is Tor Brown and he has become an excellent actor, director, and overall incredible person. And I believe it’s a place like LOFT Ensemble that has really helped him and others to be better people. That’s what I’m most proud of.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
In entertainment, there is always some luck but hard work is at the top. I believe hard work has luckily brought me some very talented and hard workers to work alongside so I’m lucky to have them.
