Today we’d like to introduce you to Eve Carmona.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As a little girl, I always dreamt of becoming my own boss. At age 12, I started helping my father with his business, I would organize my parent’s finances, and I would provide my sisters with recommendations about how to get things done the “right way” (in my sister’s eyes, I was one “bossy” girl!)
My father comes from an entrepreneurial family, so clearly, entrepreneurship is my blood. He taught me to believe in GOD, take risks, to be confident, work hard, have faith, and, most importantly, value family.
At the age of 15, I experienced the worst season of my parents business. They had very little business accounting knowledge that when the economy dropped so did their business income. They would look at me for help, but with no business accounting understanding, I had no idea how to support them. I felt powerless and sad!
This experience motivated me to enroll in college courses while still attending high school. I later mastered the university system and earned my BS in Business Administration, emphasis Accounting, (currently, completing my MPA) and began to apply my studies in my parents business.
During this time, I also began working for public and private organizations. There I learned the strategies necessary to run successful businesses and noticed procedures that small businesses lack. I’ve dedicated over ten years studying accounting, human resources processes, and procedures that made these large organizations successful.
By 2015, I was ready to launch Eve Co Consulting, a personal and small business service consulting firm that helps individuals and organizations succeed by developing leaders and strong businesses. Within three months, I had two small businesses and one nonprofit client for bookkeeping services.
By the beginning of 2018, thanks to the support of my amazing family and to Eva Macias, my financial advisor, I had my personal finances in order and ready to step into my CEO role full-time.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
At such a young age, I understood that entrepreneurship was not an easy journey. But what I didn’t learn was how to balance motherhood and entrepreneurship!
For many years, I found myself missing out on important events, PTA meetings, and soccer games. I just couldn’t get my act together. I was great in completing my client projects and making it to business meetings, but I would sacrifice my time with my son.
It took several calendar scheduling practices and awareness to my lack of time management and overcommitment that I was finally able to find a balance in my life. I started to take time at the beginning of the year to calendar important events first and priorities other commitments as they came my way.
Trust me, this is still something I struggle with, but now I’m fully aware that no matter what I get to decide my mommy time not others for me.
