Today we’d like to introduce you to Oshri.
Oshri (26 years old) was born in Israel, to a single mom who raised him with no money or means, but still made sure to sent him out to the world with a backpack full of love and confidence. After having a successful music career as a teenager part of one of the most successful boybands of Israel at the time called GameBoys he decided to go travel abroad and end up making a new home to himself in South Africa.
While living there, he joined a singing talent show, broadcast on Trace Urban, the second largest music video television network in the world. He walked away with top honors as the winner. The show was mentored by Wyclef Jean, and right after the show, Oshri moved from Cape Town to New York to continue his endeavors with Wyclef in his efforts to gain recognition in the music world
While Oshri was busy with building his new life in NY he was invited to perform at the Trace Urban Music Awards in Paris during 2015, he was spotted and then approached by American pop/R&B superstar, Akon himself, who signed Oshri to his label!
Shortly after the deal was finalized, Oshri began working on his sound with songwriter, Mike Campbell. Campbell is known for co-writing songs like “Say Something” by Christina Aguilera and Great Big World.
Oshri then began to release music to the world, include “Crazy But Free” (which even made it onto the Billboard top 40 Dance Charts), “Too Much” and “Bad Reputation” – a collaboration between Oshri and another South African superstar, Jimmy Nevis.
Oshri is now living in LA and about to finish working on his first album, he’s constantly writing and performing spreading his sound around town. His music style is heavily influenced by his family’s cultural diversity, with French and Middle Eastern parents – creating a one-of-a-kind sound.
Oshri will be releasing a single named “Right Now” ft. Max Stark by the end of the month.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was definitely not a smooth ride, I’m a very optimistic person, but still, my biggest challenge is to keep my spirit high. On the way up you constantly have to convince people every day to see what you see and believe what you believe “up” looks like for you.
Sometimes I forget, or I get full of doubts thinking maybe this is not for me, maybe I suck, and this is all just an illusion, but as the engine of your career, you just can’t afford it. So I make sure to do a lot of self-work so I can be strong enough to handle whatever comes my way.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Learning how to play guitar and piano earlier would have made my life easier. 😉
