Today we’d like to introduce you to Alice Wallace.
Alice, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been singing since I can remember. I grew up on some incredible music thanks to my musical parents – singers like Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, and Bonnie Raitt. I started writing songs on the guitar in high school and playing shows in little coffee shops and bars in college, but I always knew that it would be my ultimate dream to do it for a living.
It took me until about six years ago to finally take that leap of faith and devote all of my time to the thing I love most, and it’s been the best decision I’ve ever made. I’ve spent these past six years traveling all over the country, and in Europe, playing as many as 200 shows a year.
This January, I released a brand new album – “Into the Blue” – and the response has been overwhelmingly wonderful. My new album is really a love letter to California, and I will be touring heavily again this year to share these new songs with audiences on stages across the country.
Has it been a smooth road?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road – though I’m not sure anyone who has ever chased a dream could say that it wasn’t without struggle. Finding ways to make ends meet in the modern music world is very tough.
Touring is the main way to make money, and even still, making enough to pay my band and keep gas in the van is still a day-to-day challenge. But right now, I have an amazing team behind me in the form of Rebelle Road Records and JTMMusic.
I have more support than I ever have before, and they are helping me so much in terms of getting my new album (which came out January 18th) heard by more and more people.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I am a singer and songwriter. I have just released my fourth studio album called “Into the Blue,” and I am immensely proud of it. I spend most of my time touring the country, playing my songs for audiences in bars and clubs and listening rooms and festivals.
My music is “Americana” – a mix of country and blues and folk. I also love to throw in a bit of yodeling into my shows – a somewhat lost art that I think should not remain lost!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
Los Angeles is a place where you can feel the pulse of people pursuing their dreams
People come here to chase after the life they want to lead, that is such an inspiration. It can also be very competitive as a result, but that keeps driving you to be better at what you do.
The traffic and the congestion are an obvious downside, but it’s just a hazard of living in a beautiful place where so many other people want to be.
