Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Stoll, Max Goodrich, and Cliff Cisneros.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Brad: Max and myself got connected years ago through a mutual friend over Facebook. He knew we both had a passion for making filmmaking and comedy. Fast forward to myself moving to NYC, we got to work on some pretty funny videos for Doritos and Mike’s Hard Lemonade.
Max: I was working for a production company for a few years, and that’s how Cliff and I met. I realized that Brad, Cliff and myself had a similar sense of fart jokes, so it’s history from there.
Cliff: We don’t take ourselves seriously at all. We literally get together once a week, riff on a random subject and get filming. No egos, just playing dress up and farts.
Brad: Did we mention farts?
Max: We wanna be clear that we only care about farting, not views, farts.
Cliff: But truthfully, we wanted to make a channel where we could invite our friends, make something we actually care about and laugh about it after.
Brad: With the wave of social media, we realized that a lot of the content out there is not well thought out and just a reach for views.
Max: We want to make work that showcases who we are as comedians and gives that same cinematic feeling people deserve to see.
Cliff: Farts.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Cliff: We want to be clear that we leave our egos at the door. That’s not an easy thing to do because we all have ideas we want to bring to the table.
Max: That’s why we stress when we brainstorm that no one’s married to anything. Everyone plays an equal part, and we try to weigh each other’s ideas fairly.
Brad: Aside from actual ideas, getting together every week can be a challenge when everyone lives in different areas of LA. We’re always shooting our availability to each other in our group chat.
Cliff: When we’re not sending nudes to the group chat.
Max: Oh that was yours?
Cliff: Another tough obstacle is definitely getting actors to want to be in something for no pay. We are making no money off this and not expecting to go viral, that’s why it’s so easy for someone to bail last minute.
Max: Luckily we have some great friends who are always hitting us up to ask when they can come by for the next video. Specifically our buddy, Alessandro Chille, who’s a very talented actor. He not only helps in the films we make but also helps us tap into the dramatic scenes we try to recreate for comedic purposes.
Brad: We are also working on zero-budget videos, we didn’t get a tripod until a month ago. Our video “Enhance was shot mostly on two chairs propped up against each other.
Max: I remember during “Best Costume” we duck taped our Zoom on a broomstick as a boom mic.
Cliff: So basically it’s DIY when it comes to film equipment.
Late Bloomers – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Max: We make comedic short films. We use a mix of cinematic storytelling, VFX and will trickle in-jokes throughout the videos to showcase everyone’s best talents.
Cliff: I’d say we are most proud of how they come out. We’re not spending weeks writing out scripts for these videos, it’s a lot of improvs and natural chemistry that make these come to life.
Brad: As comics, it’s so validating to hear when you nail your execution. We’ve seen so many videos come up on our feeds, and scratch our heads trying to figure out what’s missing.
Max: Our inspiration comes from groups from the early 2000s like Derrick Comedy and GoodNeighbor. They always found a way to tell a story but remain serious and goofy at the same time.
Cliff: I think the thing that sets us apart is that we’re not all hot.
Brad: Just Cliff, but he’s more of a diversity hire.
Max: One hot guy per group, this isn’t Riverdale.
Cliff: We love what we do, and we enjoy the process.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Max: I came up in social media influencer scene and success means doing what you love. Creating something from nothing and making sure it comes out how your vision.
Brad: We all have odd jobs to keep this dream alive and the fact we get to make something as fun as comedy, truly is special.
Cliff: And Likes and Retweets. But mostly for the love of it.
