Today we’d like to introduce you to Talker.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been playing music my whole life and have always been working on different projects in some capacity. I grew up in Sacramento and went to school in Miami, and after graduating, I came out to LA about three years ago.
Since being here, I’ve done a lot of playing and touring with other bands and artists, most notably FRENSHIP, all while working on my music in the background and writing for my EP.
I put out my first song as talker in July, and have been playing a ton of shows and putting out more music, all leading up to my EP on February 22nd and release show on February 27th!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think anyone has a perfectly smooth road. I definitely got really lucky to have met the FRENSHIP guys within the first few months of moving to LA, because they were the first ones to give me an opportunity to tour and really opened a lot of doors for me and introduced me to a lot of people.
That said, it’s a double-edged sword because when you’re touring for other artists, it takes time away from focusing on your own music, and right now talker is definitely my main priority. But it’s overall been good – I’m consistently amazed by the amount of support I get and the community surrounding me, and how many people I don’t know personally that listen to my music.
Everyone’s path is different so I think it’s super important to acknowledge that, because it’s way too easy to go on Instagram and get jealous of someone who seems to be moving along faster than you – it’s so unhealthy and we all do it, but you have to celebrate everything that YOU are doing.
Talker – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I think the main thing that sets talker apart from a lot of other bands and artists right now is the focus on authenticity and vulnerability. And I don’t say that to mean others aren’t authentic, because I could look around the music community in LA right now and name dozens of very real musicians and people.
But I don’t have a stage persona, everything is consistent and very real to me. I can be a lot sometimes, but it’s all me, and it’s all there in the music. I try to be an open book and be very realistic about what I’m dealing with or going through, whether I’m talking one on one with something or sharing on social media.
The goal is to let other people see what is actually going through my head day to day, aside from my music, because we all deal with similar problems but we don’t always feel comfortable sharing it.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I think the proudest moment so far has been releasing my first single and playing a release show for that, as it’s a huge first step, but I can tell you that it’s about to be my EP release on the 22nd! This set of songs really captures an era in my life and is the first body of work where I started to find my sound and who I wanted to be as an artist.
So I’m really excited to put it out – and I’m also excited because naturally I’ve been hearing these songs for over a year at this point and I’m so ready to be focused on the new stuff and putting out music that’s fresher to me LOL.
