Meet Don DiestrO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Don DiestrO.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Don . So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I’m a 25 y/o Los Angeles based musician, record producer, and recording artist. I grew a deep interest in music in middle school (2006/2007) when I was introduced to Pharrell’s music & the brand/image that he pushed with it. I was a skater at the time & Pharrell meshed the world of music, skate,& fashion seamlessly.

Most importantly he was very relatable. Made me feel like it was cool to be a young black daydreamer. It wasn’t until my jr year of high school that I actually started making music. My mom had an old Dell laptop that I downloaded a free demo of fruity loops on & that’s where I started. Like most producers, my first few years of beats were terrible lol. But as time went on, I stayed at it & gradually progressed.

As I got better, I started manifesting different creatives into my life that I could learn from & form comraderies with. My cousin C.Wills who is also a producer was right there with me throughout this journey. We basically started together & formed a production trio with another producer named O.ThaTruth. I eventually met an artist named Jetpack Jones through my cousin & that’s where most of the real traction began. We put our foot on the gas & haven’t stopped since. Even as we all go down our own separate creative paths now, we still all have a bond the keeps us going.

Has it been a smooth road?
Some of the struggles that I’ve dealt with personally have been more internal than external. Doubt, fear of not getting where I want to be, seeing people that I know reach a level of success that I felt I deserved too. Things like that. Those feelings are all temporary & pass eventually. You just can’t beat yourself up when you feel those emotions.

You have to remind yourself that those emotions aren’t who you are & that you’re always exactly where you’re supposed to be. Positivity & visualizing what you want is very important and overlooked. Overall I wouldn’t change a single thing about the road I’ve chosen. The friendships that I’ve made & experiences makes it all worth it.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
Out of all my different creative faces, I’m mostly known for my production & versatility. That’s what I’m proud of & I feel like that’s what sets me apart. I can emulate pretty much any style of music.

My consistency is also something that I take a lot of pride in. It takes a lot to do what I do, at the level and pace that I do it at.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
What I like most about Los Angeles is the weather of course lol. But I love how there’s always something cool going on. There’s always someone new to meet. & so many different hues of people & art.

It’s a great place to network & just meet cool people outside of business as well. One thing that I dislike about Los Angeles, besides the traffic lol, is clout chasing (doing things for the sole purpose of looking cool to others.)

Great story, thanks for sharing. It’s great to see young artists like DonDiestro take risks necessary to learn and grow with his music. He’s just gong to keep getting better. Well done.
