Today we’d like to introduce you to George Solonos.
George, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My professional career counts 15+ years in the industry and is affiliated with artists including Tommy Lee (Motley Crue, Methods of Mayhem), Scott Humphrey, Quincy Jones, Tim “Ripper” Owens, Boy George, and more.
I was born on the beautiful Mediterranean island of Cyprus. Though the island has always been kind to me with all its natural beauties and kind-hearted people, there was always an unquenchable thirst for internal growth through new places and experiences
A shocking life event at the tender age of five found me battling with severe stuttering which in the early days, would not allow me to pronounce a single word. In hindsight, those events led me to discover different means to express my self. My friends would often visit, and instead of us talking, I would perform music for them.
My career and love for music so far has led me to live in places like Greece, the UK and now California. I simply love what I do because it is food for the soul, I feel everything else is just secondary.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There’s always bumps on the road, anyone who says otherwise better brace themselves! Obstacles are part of the journey and are actually what makes us grow.
Moving countries and being half a globe away from your loved ones, for example, is not the easiest task, but one has to weigh things in the quest for balance.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
Music for me is so much more than notes and sounds. It is a charged vibration that travels infinitely. For example, composing music for film is all about telling the story behind the story, and that requires generous amounts of empathy.
Empathy is essential not only to get inside the character’s skin but also to get inside the director’s shoes and realize what they want to say in each scene. Music Production and Performance are no different.
Getting in the artist’s shoes or connecting with the audience also requires an open heart and positive intentions. I am very blessed to be working with filmmakers and artists that share the same concept.
Some of my most recent works include Composing Music for the film “Bad Habits” which won ‘Best Music Score’ at the Bucharest ShortCut Cinefest, Composing for the film “Calico Queens” feat. Hilty Bowen and Danny Trejo.
Guitar work for films “Bereave” feat. Malcolm McDowell and Jane Seymour, “Operator” feat. Luke Goss, Ving Rhames, and Mischa Barton, “93 Days” feat. Danny Glover, “Apple of my Eye” feat. Amy Smart and Burt Reynolds.
Co-releasing a jazz-based instrumental five-track project with saxophonist John Waugh (“The 1975”), entitled ‘Dive,’ which touched the top 10 at the iTunes Jazz Charts in the first week. A personal acoustic guitar EP release entitled ‘Dawn.’ (Link to my latest acoustic video “Old Man and the Sea” from “Dawn”: bit.ly/2FjNsRk).
Currently, I am working on two feature films that I can’t disclose just yet and recording multiple stringed instruments for another two. Music Production-wise I just finished producing an E.P. for Rock band “Barebone.”
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
This might sound a little strange, but If I had to go back, I would honestly do absolutely nothing differently. Even the hard bumps on the road have proved to be valuable lessons. It’s all about the journey, and this one has definitely been more than interesting!
