Life and Work with Ashley Lee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Lee.

Ashley, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I moved to LA from New Orleans to attend FIDM seven years ago to pursue my dream of having a successful career in fashion. My artistry evolved more than I could’ve ever imagined.

I began my journey in this industry as a fashion designer/stylist then modeled for different brands. These experiences revealed how much creativity actually occurs behind the scene. As I look back over the past years I realize how much art, color theory, and the Beauty Industry were already apart of my life since high school, so making it my career was natural.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I create the most beautiful YOU. My creations begin with an understanding of my client. Together we take your expectations and my expertise to deliver the look you desire. What I create is limitless. My work varies from a clean beauty shot for print to a special effects character in a music video to fashion designs for a showcase, which is why I love this industry.

I am very fortunate to have a full studio available through my beauty school Michael Vincent Academy (MVA) giving me a workplace to collaborate with models, photographers, videographers, and designers expanding everyone’s portfolio. Every new face is a fresh canvas and my opportunity to promote positivity by helping others to feel beautiful and confident.

Ashleemwuah is here to inspire other creatives and to promote positivity in the world by making people feel beautiful and confident. My creations are primarily inspired by my imagination. Art is all about self-expression to me, I feel like more people should use platforms and creativity to express themselves in a healthy way.

I’d like everyone to know that at times it may be very challenging to create a certain project or work with certain people but if you are committed and not afraid to put yourself out there, you can achieve your dream. I remain positive and encouraged because I have decided to enjoy the journey and grow through every experience.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Success to me is seeing personal growth as an artist. Every artist is different and has different goals for their artistry. If an artist is happy with their work that is success to me, also if the desired audience or client is happy. Sometimes the creations may not be originally what the artist wanted but self-expression is my goal and the way I measure my personal success. Integrity is essential as an artist; remaining true to yourself and to your art!

The role of an artist has always been to express and display. Depending on different worldly issues and the personality of the artist they may decide to bring attention to the issue by using it as inspiration.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Ashleemwuah page on Instagram is the best place at the moment to find my portfolio. I am currently building a website, and working on my upcoming showcase this February the 27th for RAWARTISTS on Sunset in Los Angeles. People can support my work by coming to the 21+ event for RAWARTISTS as it will include beauty and fashions from Ashleemwuah. http://rawartists.org/ashleemwuah
