Today we’d like to introduce you to Francisco Reyes Jr.
Francisco, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
For over a decade, I’ve been pursuing my passion for Graphic Design. My experience as a musician and involvement in the skateboarding scene in my late teens and early 20s taught me the value of hard work and the importance of building things from the ground up. Until this day the DIY ethic continues to be a big part of my everyday.
After I graduated from college, I was unable to find a job in the field. While I was working odd jobs by day and refining my craft by night, I was able to land an internship at Studio Number One with my biggest inspirations, Shepard Fairey. After a couple of months, I was able to land a full time with the company which I still maintain right now! Yes, I still have a 9-5 lol.
Working with industry giants like Shepard Fairey and Cleon Peterson help me develop my skills tremendously. This is the time when I coined the alias Never Made. Under Never Made, I parlay the vision through a wide range of items, including, but not limited to: limited edition screen prints, t-shirts, other apparel goods, and murals.
Aside from my work with OBEY and Never Made, I had the privilege to freelance for key brands like Rebel 8, Hurley, Primitive Skateboards, Epitaph, Hellcat Records, Urban Outfitters, FYF Festival and Day N Night Festival. I was also fortunate enough to be the first brand to sign up for Complex Con and other cultural events like Agenda Fest, Designer Con, and Into Action Art Festival.
While I continue to develop Never Made both as an art brand and an esthetic, I will always maintain the principle that things are never made, they’re earned through hard work and persistence.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I do limited edition art prints, apparel, and murals. As a graphic designer everything I see, feel and I go thru on a daily basis is my inspiration.
Art is subjective, Individuals reaction to art is based/influenced by personal experiences, feelings, and opinions. I like to leave all meaning to the viewer interpretation.
What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
Just create and let the world and your surroundings inspire you. Never stop creating!
There are not lessons I wished I had learned earlier in life, timing is everything, things only work when the timing is right, be patient!
