Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Shepherd.
Wendy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I never really knew exactly what I wanted to do in life except to get married and be a mother. My husband Michael and I went to college part-time for a few years where I focused on Business Administration. We both worked full-time jobs and stopped going to college when my husband’s job moved us from Arizona to California.
Upon becoming a mother, I was absorbed with my growing family that now includes three sons; Erick, Tim, and Mark. Though I thought about what I’d do after my kids were grown. I’d heard stories about how some mothers who had grown kids found that their work skills were outdated, making it hard for them to get jobs. I didn’t want that to happen, so I was very grateful that my father-in-law introduced me to the computer when we had moved to Maryland.
Being a stay at home mom with access to the internet through the computer, I was able to find resources online and taught myself how to create websites, promote them, and earn an income from them. Other people wanted me to create websites for them as well, that lead to a service side business. I’ve worked with lots of people over the twenty plus years that I’ve been online.
Nearly twelve years ago, I got connected with actor Sean Patrick Flanery. I believe he was the first actor I worked with. As I helped build up Sean’s online presence, gathering his fans lead to working with Norman Reedus, Paul J. Alessi, Clifton Collins Jr. and more great talented people in the entertainment industry. I found that there was a need for online promotion to help spread the word about them and their projects.
I’ve always loved entertainment, including the day when I was able to watch Star Wars at a drive-in theater. I even started a couple of websites called Movie Vine and Entertainment Vine. So combining my online skills with working with people in the entertainment industry is a perfect match. I get excited about new projects constantly, and I work with people in entertainment from California and all over the world.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Yes, there have been struggles along the way. As an entrepreneur in charge of things, when illness strikes me or my family, it sets back work time, and it takes a little while to catch up.
Also, just when I think I’ve got a handle on technology tools that I use, new or upgraded ones come along, and it takes time to re-learn them. Costs of software/hardware fluctuate and are not always affordable for a small business owner.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Studio Matrix – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I help people improve their online visibility by creating and growing their internet presence by helping them with websites, social networks, and publicity through my Studio Matrix business. I’m always happy to hear how the work that I’ve done has helped my clients with their careers. I’m so proud of their determination and accomplishments.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m always looking to grow my business and try to keep up with current trends. I don’t have any big changes planned at this time, but there are certain ideas I’m working on that I won’t disclose until I’m sure I’ll be going forward with them.
