Meet Shelby Duncan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Duncan.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Shelby. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
My parents gave me a little red Kodak 110 when I was seven years old, and I took it everywhere. I was always inspired by the camera’s powers to capture an experience or an emotion. In school, I started entering gallery shows and photographing musicians that inspired me and then eventually moved to Los Angeles to pursue it professionally.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think in life it’s always a wave of emotions, especially as an evolving artist. We are the ROAD and with that comes struggles that are challenging yet always rewarding especially if we are open to the lesson. The more awareness I have within my photography’s purpose, the more clarity I feel along the way. It makes for a smoother ride that is!

I think the most important thing is being open to growth and expansion. To try new things and accept failure as simply a learning curve in finding the authentic creative truth to our voice and vision. The process is the road to enjoying it all!

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I’m a commercial and fine art photographer with a great team that supports my work.

There are so many great photographers out there and what sets us all apart I think is establishing a personal aesthetic that represents the creative output within your artwork that we want to put out in the world.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t really believe in luck. I think when those “lucky” moments happen it’s the universe laying out an opportunity that you can either accept or pass on.

I think luck also comes in instant moments that need awareness and some sense of bravery into the unknown if you’re ready to fearlessly accept the unexpected and that has served a great deal in my life and career. To trust the guts of “luck.”
