Meet Nicholas Cho and Damien Murphy of AirballingLA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Cho and Damien Murphy.

Nicholas and Damien, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We started this company by purchasing Airballs and servicing Bubble Soccer in Los Angeles, thus the name AirballingLA. Our interest to promote the physical movement for general well-being pushed us to seek novel ways to transition the notion of exercise as a ‘work out’ to ‘fun out.’

Bubble Soccer was the first way we were able to get people to sweat a noticeable amount while having a blast. But novelty eventually wears off, and we decided to prepare for this by adding another novel activity into our arsenal, Archery Tag. With all the equipment for Archery Tag, we decided to pursue a viral trend for kids and even adults – Nerf Wars.

After we locked in our three primary activities, we decided to be the best sports rental company in Los Angeles by curating and innovating electric activities suitable for corporate team building, birthday parties, fundraisers, and almost every private party you can think of. By staying committed to our vision, we’ve been able to add Zorbing, Phat Scooter Rentals, and pretty soon, Fortnite.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The biggest struggle from running this company was an action that contradicted self-benefit. For example, finding the right wage was incredibly hard. I wanted to pay my employees as little as possible to obtain a higher profit margin, however, I pride myself on values.

So, early during the growth of the company, I had a month of dealing with two voices inside of me: one that said, “just pay them slightly above minimum wage” versus the other, “pay them what you would like to be paid.”

And it became easier when I aligned my actions with my values, but after this mental hurdle came another such as, how do I lead instead of boss people around to incentivize my employees to provide excellent service out of respect for the company and founder rather than out of fear from being cut loose or being reprimanded.

Please tell us about AirballingLA.
We are the best recreational sports company in Los Angeles. We curate and innovate novel activities for corporate team building, birthday parties, and social functions. The current activities that we provide are Bubble Soccer, Archery Tag, Nerf War, Discovering L.A with Phat Scooters, and Zorbing.

We’re known by Los Angelenos who are in ‘the in’ as the best party rental company in L.A. We’re proud of our vision and the way we carry it out – maximize health through physical movement that’s perceived as fun.

Our activities alone sets us apart from every other party rental. Having a vision and working hard for it also helps with setting us apart for we always provide excellent service due to our intrinsic motivator, give value.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start this specific company from scratch, I wouldn’t make any changes; I was thoroughly prepared from the start.
