Meet Stan Lee of Fried Chicken Sandwich Studios in Highland Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stan Lee.

Stan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my content creation/social media company in January of 2018 because I saw a job listing from a social media company hiring photographers for $15 an hour. The company also owned the rights to all the photos by the photographer. It was a fucking disgrace. I’m all about equal pay and treating people the way I want to be treated.

I started this company with my business partner so one day when we go head to head bidding for a client, we can ultimately win the bid because they are a bunch of profiting assholes that don’t care about people making a livable wage. We pay our people on-time and well. Also, they blocked me on Twitter when I tweeted to them inquiring about their despicable rate.

Has it been a smooth road?
The main struggle for our business at this point is scaling up and having restaurants pay on-time. You go to a restaurant, you order food, you eat, and you pay. We create the content, we edit the content, we deliver, we need to get paid. If you stop eating in the middle of the meal at the restaurant, does that mean you don’t pay? Of course not.

We now work with over 30 different clients. Since October of 2018, we have purged about seven different restaurants off our client list that are always late on payment and/or do not pay. We had to implement three months no payment no work policy. Our next step is to hire a collection agency to recover the missing payments. Scaling up is always a working process.

Since our client list is expanding so is our workload. The solution is to find people you trust and pay them well. People will do good work if they trust you too.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We make photos and videos for restaurants and hospitality brands. We do not price gouge our clients, and we try to communicate as much as we can about our methods.

I am proud because we now work with people we like. Now that the company is established, we can also be picky with the companies we work with.

We’re better because we create a superior product for a fair price. It’s been a full year since the start of FCS, and we’re growing rapidly.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Randy Newman and I both LOVE LA. This is an exciting time for businesses to tell their own stories. We’re here to help with that. The platform right now is Instagram and Facebook but that’ll one day that’ll change.

For someone starting out, the best thing to do is keep up with the latest technology (READ A LOT), the algorithms, run tests on your own accounts, and practice your art/methods.
