Meet Haydee Reveles of iBelieve

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haydee Reveles.

Haydee, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started painting in 2012. At the time, I had no idea how to paint. When I was a kid, I use to color just like any other kid. I don’t remember being great at it either, but I do remember how fun it was to just color.

Fast forward years later to me being an adult and having now two daughters of my own, I would buy them art supplies to play with, but they would just leave them there collecting dust. One day I decided to use their paint and their old canvas to kill some time. It was those first brush strokes that made me fall in love with painting.

I sucked so bad at the time, but I knew I wanted to continue. So I made it a goal to learn how to paint portraits. I painted everyday after that for so many hours. What made it worst was I had no access to internet and too busy to read a book, I just went for it and started painting people that looked at the time like deform cartoons.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I struggled for a while thinking I would never learn. I broke so many canvases out of frustration, to be honest, I also cried a few times. I was not trying to prove anything to no one just to myself that it was possible.

At some point, I thought this is not for me, and I wanted to quit. But I don’t know how to quit anything, so I kept going. After I improved a little, I decided I wanted to share it with my closes friends on social media.

I was also scared to share my work because I thought no one would appreciate it, no one will understand it or just the thought of them thinking how much I sucked scared me. But I still shared it, and I told myself to forget what anyone thinks this is what I like to do.

iBelieve – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Being a visual artist and working with oil paint is something I’m very proud of. Even though I venture to other mediums here and there, oil paint is always my top choice.

That being said, I’m not sure what sets me apart, but I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I never ever thought or did it cross mind when I started doing this that my work would be good enough to be on display along with some amazing artist and galleries.

I think every opportunity that has come my way like art exhibitions or any of my pieces being sold and shipped around the world are proud moments to me.
