Meet Nicole Rae, Chase Klitzner, Ryan Meagher, and Shane Lawrence of The Gooms

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Rae, Chase Klitzner, Ryan Meagher, and Shane Lawrence.

In late 2016, after disbanding their previous band, Dadbod, Chase Klitzner and Shane Lawrence birthed The Gooms. They played shows as a guitar and drum duo, but when they realized they needed a bassist to hold down the low end of their early garage rock sound, they found Nicole Rae to play…lead guitar. After six months, many late gigs, and driving all around the city as just a two-guitar and drum trio, Ryan Meagher, the bass man of rhythm, fell right into their laps. The band has been rocking together ever since.

Has it been a smooth road?
We don’t believe that smooth roads exist. As a band, the way we handle our “road” is by expecting the worst and being prepared to embrace discomfort and change. We face the same struggles as most other bands–sound problems at live shows, missed opportunities, creative differences. We work as a unit to overcome each challenge, making us a stronger group of musical entrepreneurs, musicians, and friends.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
Our specialty is our eccentric and high octane live performances. We enjoy showcasing our eclectic musical tastes by turning our own tracks into medleys featuring our favorite artists’ work, including but not limited to Led Zeppelin, No Doubt, and Michael Jackson.

Our fans are a dedicated lot, and we like to reward those frequently coming out to shows with new sonic treats. What the group is most proud of is our ability to make the most out of bad situations, whether it be in life, or in concert. When the power went out during a Halloween performance in Santa Clarita, We lit up the crowd with a cappella renditions of “Say It Ain’t So” and “Where is my Mind”–getting everyone to sing along in the process.

In life, there are moments when the power goes out. The Gooms know it takes leadership and meaningful melodies to guide us through the dark times (as a sound technician finds and switches the breaker). The Gooms hope to have accomplished this on our latest release, “With an M,” which contains six illuminating songs about life, heartbreak, and broken relationships.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We hope there are an indefinite amount of new shifts, changes, and trends in the future of music over time. Not speaking on the industry, but as artists, we love to see how society, nature, and the world shift and change art and music. The creative process works with the world, and as long as time progresses, we hope music follows. We are inspired by change.
