Meet Brianna Brown of The New Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Brown Keen.

Minnesota native Brianna Brown Keen is an award-winning actress who has worked for two decades in Hollywood with projects ranging from top-grossing feature films to Emmy-winning television shows. She can currently be seen as the love to hate villain Claudia Blaisdel on CW’s Dynasty.  Brianna is also the Founder and CEO of the not for profit organization The New Hollywood which was established in 2006.  The New Hollywood is dedicated to supporting socially conscious storytellers and changemakers and intends to inspire everyone to Rise Higher, Shine Brighter and Give Back! www.thenewhollywood.org

Aside from being paid to pretend and running a non-profit Brianna has been nominated six years in a row for Los Angeles Business Journal’s Women Making a Difference Award, won the Philanthropic Award at the Gratitude Summit, was recognized by the City of Santa Monica for the good work within The New Hollywood, and is the Chair Ambassador for the National Women’s History Museum. www.briannabrown.com

Within their organization (The New Hollywood) they have utilized the annual guidebook, Manifesting Your Mission, which Brianna co-wrote alongside author Beth Navarro. The reason that this organization and guidebook was created was because when Brianna landed in La La Land at the ripe age of 19 she needed a tribe a like-minded people who were positive and uplifting instead of competitive and negative.  Over time she found authentic, positive, proactive people who would celebrate the wins, encourage each other to soar, and to nudge each other to stop playing small.  Most importantly, to remind each other that storms pass and that every obstacle can be an opportunity, if one allows it to be.

Has it been a smooth road?
Like any business, there have been hurdles when we expanded. But I look back with gratitude because it taught me how to refine our systems, to simplify and solidify what is working, discarding what isn’t, to speak up and set boundaries and to ask for advice from others who were thriving in that area.  Since 2006 it’s been a constant wave of growth and expansion, learning, revamping and polishing.

With our annual guidebook, we have internally beta-tested it for seven years and have done a soft launch the past year to make sure that what works within our organization with members is easily relatable to non-members of all walks of life. We are so happy because with our glowing testimonials because not only has it been so well received but  people are really manifesting their mission!

We are now on the road to go from self-publishing to looking for a publisher who can take it to a much wider audience, and I’ve begun speaking on behalf of this topic as well to schools, corporations and other non-profits. I purposefully built both my non-profit and the sharing of my guidebook out slowly so that the product would work and truly add value for anyone.

If you are interested feel free to check out my keynote reel that touches on TNH, Manifesting Your Mission as well as a brief overview of me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXOEdsxJZDX

We’d love to hear more about your organization.
Like I mentioned, my non-profit is geared to help support socially conscious storytellers and changemakers. For members we utilize the tool Manifesting Your Mission (the guidebook I co-wrote). We have all sorts of programs for non-members too, they just have to sign our PLEDGE on our website to be kept in the loop. Whether it’s our Mentorship Event, Kindness in Action Challenge, Get My Body Back Challenge or our Holiday Party.  Everything we do has a gift back, pay it forward aspect so it’s a win/win!

We are all about helping elevate ourselves and in turn hopefully inspire others to Rise Higher, Shine Brighter and Give Back. In an industry that can be all about the surface, popularity and incredibly fickle it’s been rewarding to collaborate and be surrounded by like-minded men and women who have a bigger purpose than just personal fame.

For our members we have micro-grants and fiscal sponsorship opportunities for socially conscious projects, different initiatives to support parents, charitable opportunities and challenges as well as goal setting and accountability systems. I highly recommend checking out our guidebook Manifesting Your Mission if this resonates with you and sign our pledge so you can be involved. www.thenewhollywood.orgwww.briannabrown.com/shop/

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think the entertainment industry is continuing to move toward individuals being content creators in order to thrive decade after decade.  That one needs to be a savvy business person and an out of the box thinker to utilize momentum and opportunities.  Which again is why I  highly recommend anyone who is within the entertainment industry (or an entrepreneur) who feels inspired to give back and add value to check out our non-profit. I also highly recommend those same folks to utilize our guidebook because it can be daunting trying to make the seemingly impossible possible in Tinseltown.  Especially for artist’s who are often not taught how to run their own business.

These systems have worked not just for me, but for many of the men and women who have been part of our organization.  I know from experience that in Hollywood one can so easily become distracted from why they started out in the first place and get burnt out from all the rejection and uncertainty.  It’s so easy to go down the wrong path then look back and see that you aren’t doing what you came out to Los Angeles to do while years have swirled by in a blur.  These tools and systems have helped me stay the course and helped me be authentic in how I navigated Tinseltown and my life.  Manifesting Your Mission gently reminds you to stay on your path, to listen within and to get sh*t done!
