Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandra Briseño.
Alejandra, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a Mexican model of large size. I am from Guadalajara, Jalisco. I started from the bottom trying to accept myself as I am, fighting against the criticism of the people around me, protecting myself from the comments of my colleagues. Everything started like this, wanting to change, to please other people, wanting to be like a thin model in magazines or on television. After fighting all my life with this problem, I realized that I am who I am and who I was. I accepted that I was never going to be perfect.
To be honest, I did not start in the world of modeling to inspire people, or anything, I alienated myself with positive body movements, I started doing it just because I loved posing in front of a camera, it was fun to feel that the camera was my mirror, the mirror where he could see me as I am without worrying about anything else. And that’s how I started, losing fears to those who will say.
Taking my crazy pictures to my current agency, New Icon, where I was already seen as someone who could do something great, and there was a person who saw me from above and took me further, Pablo Anton, the person who brought me to Mexico City to grow more in the world of modeling.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story. Has it been an easy road in general and, if not, what were the challenges you had to overcome?
It was not an easy path, mainly because of the subject of self-esteem, because if you do not feel good about yourself you can not project positive things to people or a camera.
The first challenge I went through was my self, simply accepting myself a little more each day, it is something of a lot of work, time and will.
Having to overcome the negative comments of my family and people around me and learn that self-love is the only thing that counts.
I discovered that I am unique, that I have a hundred defects but thousands of virtues and that I am the one I like to be, the woman who enjoys all the tastes of life, who loves to try everything and who I feel proud of being imperfect.
What should we know about your business? What do you do best? What separates you from the competition?
I have a degree in communication and model by passion.
I love being a plus size model because it gives me more security and I know more girls identify with me.
There are thousands of models of large size and what makes me unique is that it is simply me, we are all beautiful and unique, we comply with certain characteristics that make us unique, everything is relative to the eyes that look at us.
One advice I give to other women is that they love themselves as they are, never compare themselves to other people and accept that we are unique and that this is our best quality.
That the day will come when you are not very well to see yourself in a mirror, you will find a thousand flaws, but the key is simply to love them.
Do you have any advice to find a mentor or a network in general? What worked for you?
One piece of advice I give to all those girls who want to start is to get into an agency to whatever they like and ask other people about their experience.
I am happy with my agency and with Pablo Anton because without him it would not be where I am, and I know that there is still more to go but we are going step by step.
